Ryker
The wrapped gift boxes stacked upon the other that he gripped under, all tumbled to the ground, as he stopped at the entrance. For a second, all he did was look at my wife who met his stare with a glare, and back to me.
Slowly, the color drained from his face, fury penetrating his eyes. “You are marrying my wife…” he bit back a scoffing laugh.
The smile on my face didn't falter. “Ex-wife. She is now mine and I don't appreciate people laying claims to what no longer belongs to them,”
Gasps echoed through the room, Leroy’s eyes darkening on me. “Wait for a second, I'm in the wrong room. I was sent an invite to the Alpha King’s wedding—not a sham of a wedding by my older brother who has always been jealous of me, and wants everything that belongs to me!”
His brows knitted, as he glanced around, taking in the faces of the guests I had always watched him embarrass himself around just to get their attention. Then he darted his eyes back to me, disbelief settling in them as he blurted out—the same time as Ariella. “You are the Alpha King!”
I ignored my brother. He was irrelevant.
I stared down at Ariella, shock boldly written on her face. “You are the Alpha Ki—” I cupped her cheeks, leaned in, and pressed a soft kiss to her mouth as she stilled in my arms.
Her pupils dilated as she pulled back, while her eyes searched through mine for answers. For the truth. “What do you think?”
I was the Alpha King.
The Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack and the most feared Alpha in the territory. My mum had hated me from the moment she birthed me, claiming she was too young to care for a child so my grandma took me in because I was her first grandchild and she wouldn't allow my mum to abandon me in the orphanage as she originally planned.
I lived most of my childhood at Grandma Susan’s house, and spent scattered weekends and holidays at my father's place. It was during my frequent visits with Dad that I discovered that he was the Alpha King and by blood, I was to be the next one.
To hold leverage over everyone, it was required that I keep my identity hidden, and I did just that. Blending in with people, separating them like chaff—to know who to keep as friends and those to keep at a distance.
The only friends I made in the Dark Moon Pack—those who later went on to establish their own packs or take control of others— were the ones who knew my true identity.
One of the reasons Mother left my father was because, according to her, he wasn’t an Alpha, and it had always been her dream to be one, since Lunas held high status in society. It was also another reason she disliked me, because to her, I was wasting my life, the known Playboy tangled in numerous scandals, one she even suspected of dealing with drugs, while Leroy remained the golden child.
The Alpha. Her favorite son.
Leroy shook his head. “No, this is unreal. I don't believe this. This is a clear impersonation of the Alpha King and I will have you reported in the courts for this lie!”
Then he looked around—at all the Alphas that he had always wanted to be friends with, doubt flashing in his eyes as he shook his head.
“No. I am not having this…Ariella!” he snarled. “So you have been cheating on me with my brother? You ruined our marriage because of him…do you think he loves you? Him—” he pointed to me with disdain in his eyes. “Capable of love?”
“Is he the reason you asked for a divorce and threw what we had out of the window!”
Ariella frowned deeply. “I ruined what we had? Are you drunk or do you need a reminder of what you did?”
There was this subtle flicker of fear in his eyes. “Because I still love you, I am giving you another chance. Come back to me, Ariella. I will forgive you and forget that this eyesore ever happened,”
Her jaw tightened as she took me aback, looping her arms around my neck. “Go to hell, Leroy!” She pulled me in for a kiss that left him going totally berserk.
In a fit of rage, Leroy rushed towards the altar, threatening to rain down hail and brimstone, screaming as the security blocked him and threw him out of my wedding.
