"I'm not yours!" she rebuked, her voice muffled against his skin. She dug her sharp nails into Kael's wrist, desperately battling to pry his hand from her mouth.
Kael didn't budge. His expression darkened instantly, his ego unable to stomach her relentless rejection.
"Then I'll show you that I don't need your approval to make you mine. You already are," he asserted.
"Let me go!" Louisa barked the second his hand slipped. "Why can't you just let me go?"
"Why can't I let you go?" he repeated through gritted teeth. "Because I truly love you, Louisa. And I am a man of my word. I won't let your blinded pain jeopardise my efforts to become the Alpha King. Without you, my sick father will never let me take the throne."
With that, he crashed his lips onto hers.
Louisa's heart sank painfully at the forced intimacy. She refused to give him an opening, yet he devoured her mouth hungrily, acting as if he had been starving for her.
She had always imagined herself arching in pleasure beneath him, saving herself for their wedding night, even if she had allowed him intimate touches in the past.
But she couldn't bear to have her dignity ripped away in this monstrous way. Kael had become completely unrecognisable from the boy she had known since childhood—the man she had grown up beside.
Not when her body had already rejected him completely, even before her lips could form the actual words.
"Get off me, please! I don't want to do this with you, Alpha Kael!" she cried out against his mouth. "Don't do this. I beg you."
Kael didn't stop. His hands roamed aggressively over her body in a slow, predatory advance, eager to claim every inch he felt entitled to.
“Louisa, I’m sorry I have to do this. Marking you is the only way I can stop you from breaking our bond. Once I do, no man can ever have you,” he murmured.
He lifted his head and looked straight into her tear-filled eyes, which now glimmered with absolute resentment.
His lips curved into a triumphant smirk.
“Don’t let him mark you, or we’ll be doomed with this beast, Louisa!” her wolf, Kira, growled furiously inside her, as though she wanted to rip free from Louisa’s body and tear him apart.
But Kira could not.
“Do something, Louisa! I can’t bear his disgusting scent anymore. He’s releasing it everywhere!” Kira barked again, realising Louisa was mentally drowning in her grief. “Don’t be a helpless, stupid lover girl! Hurt him if you have to!”
The room grew stifling and suffocating beneath the overwhelming scent Kael was releasing before he began.
Hot tears spilt down Louisa’s cheeks as she stared into his eyes. All she could see now was dangerous obsession and toxic possessiveness.
It finally dawned on her that the man she loved had never truly loved her. He only wanted to keep her by his side for his own ambitions and his twisted sense of ownership.
Disappointment and mortification consumed her, burning even hotter than the betrayal of the previous night.
Kael slipped his hands beneath her nightgown, reaching for her panties.
“No! This is wrong, Kael!” Louisa shook her head desperately. Her pulse thundered against her ribcage in sheer terror, leaving her breathless. “Do... don’t claim me this way! I’ll never forgive you for this!”
He didn’t seem frightened by her words.
Instead, he brought the torn fabric to his nose, inhaling her scent deeply as his smile widened.
“It’s sad at first. But I promise to make it up to you, Louisa, forever. You’ll crave and beg to have me every day once you taste me. You’re just scared. Relax, or this will hurt more. You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this. I’ve endured my hunger to keep you pure until now.”
He tossed the fabric aside and shoved down his pants, freeing himself.
Louisa quickly squeezed her eyes shut, refusing to look at the disgusting man about to break her in such a cruel, unwanted way.
Thinking her brief stillness meant she was finally submitting, Kael released her wrists to grip her thighs, forcing them apart.
Louisa seized the opportunity, driving her knee violently up into his groin.
Kael collapsed off the bed, hitting the marble floor as he clutched himself.
"Ahhh!" A loud, agonised grunt tore from his throat. "What have you done, Louisa?!"
Her frightened eyes darted around the room, desperately searching for a weapon to knock him out completely so she could escape the estate.
Finding nothing solid enough, she grabbed the heavy lamp from the nightstand with shaking hands and brought it crashing down on his head with a devastating cry.
"Screw you, Alpha Kael!"
The lamp shattered against his skull, and he slumped, motionless. She never imagined a day would come like this; she'd hurt him.
Still, she didn't regret it.
All she could think about was fleeing. Louisa surged toward the door without a backward glance, refusing to be trapped as his wife.
She stumbled to the exit and frantically yanked the doorknob. She twisted it repeatedly, pulling with all her supernatural strength.
Usually, a wooden door would be easy for her to break through, but this one only rattled uselessly in its frame, refusing to give way.
Her shoulders sagged as the horrific realisation set in.
She was trapped.
Kael had locked the door with a spell the moment he brought her in. He had anticipated her reaction perfectly.
"No. This cannot be happening! I have to leave! Let me out!" she rasped, her lips trembling. She banged on the heavy wood non-stop. "Open the door! Is someone out there? Please, open the door!"
Louisa’s blood ran cold, as if plunged into a sea of ice, when Kael spoke from behind her in a hoarse, ragged voice.
"Though it hurts, did you really think a mere lamp could knock out a powerful Alpha like me? Even your combat skills can't, because I'm the one who taught you how to be strong," he muttered, his tone dripping with dark mockery.
Louisa was too overwhelmed by sheer terror to make her body move.
Right. He had taught her how to be strong, which only made her despise how powerless she felt against him.
If she had to break his limbs to escape him for good and make sure he could never find her again, then so be it.
She watched Kael's face contort with raw pain as he forced his throbbing body to stand back up.
"No one would dare open it, Louisa," Kael's hardened voice boomed. "Only I have the keys to my room. You're becoming my wife and Luna no matter what."
He pulled a ring of keys from his pocket and lifted his hand, the deliberate, metallic clinking sound catching her attention.
Louisa clenched her jaw tightly until it ached. The sight of the dangling keys was a sick challenge: come get them, or be confined in this suffocating room until their wedding day.
"I'd rather kill myself than marry a crazy, twisted man like you!" she spat.
His face flushed with deep-seated fury, his patience visibly snapping. Her body shuddered with every quick, predatory step he took to close the small distance between them.
Before he could reach her, a voice echoed from outside the heavy door.
"Alpha Kael!"
Kael halted and Louisa thought she had been handed a sliver of hope.
She couldn't tell if the person on the other side was one of Kael's loyal guards. But if not, it was her only chance.
She spun around, throwing herself at the door again.
Just as she parted her lips to scream for help, Kael moved like lightning. He clamped his hand over her mouth once more.
Yet Louisa didn't give up. She kicked and thrashed her hands against the wood before he could drag her away.
The sudden commotion caught the person's attention.
"Is there a problem, Alpha Kael? Do you need help?" The voice sounded incredibly familiar to Louisa. It was one of the servants she was close with at the Alpha King's residence.
"I don't need help. What is it you want?" Kael snapped, deflecting the question.
There was a brief silence on the other side before the servant spoke again.
"The physician sent me to inform you that Lyra's condition is worsening again. You're needed urgently."
"Leave. I'll be there right away," Kael ordered, dismissing the intrusion.
The moment the heavy footsteps faded down the hallway, Kael forcefully dragged Louisa back toward the bed.
He released his bruising grip on her lips but gave her zero chance to react. Moving with ruthless precision, he struck the edge of his palm hard against a vital pressure point on her neck.
Louisa's body instantly went rigid. The room violently spun on its axis as a suffocating darkness swallowed her whole.
‘No. I can't go down like this. He might finish this and mark me,’ she screamed in the confines of her fading mind.
She slumped onto the mattress, and a heavy darkness swallowed her whole.
