-CARTER- "May the goddess bless my wolf when the time comes," uttered Omega from before. They were talking quickly, but they were still talking about me. I felt horrible that I had caused concern for everyone. I was unaware of their deep concern for me. I knew what I could do in my head. However, I did not want the Omega to go crazy. I apologize for not telling you, Holly. I fell asleep not too long after eating. I was totally to blame. Is there any way I could take care of the kitchen duties for you tomorrow morning? It was a mental connection. With relief, Holly answered. You are okay, thank the goddess. Carter, what took place? You were not at the backyard BBQ with the rest of the group. Did something happen? Vanessa had to be the one! The last question made her growl. I was familiar with Holly. After she talked to the Alpha, he agreed to discipline Vanessa, but he would later call me and order Vanessa to punish me once more. He hated me the day Luna took me in the pack. "No, I am alright, trust me, I am fine," was my response. I told my friend a lie, which made her feel resentful as usual. Lying to Holly is the one thing I detest the most. Keeping these secrets from her pains me. Is your tummy stuffed? I am able to get you some food. 'Where are you?' I asked. She said, "I will go to you," and I had the impression that Karma was making fun of me for lying. "Where are you once more?" My eyes grew wide as I made a hasty attempt to escape the mattress that served as my only refuge from the hell outside, where Vanessa the b***h was in charge. I looked around the room for my bathing suit as I held my chest. I took an undershirt for the moment since the packed house has a pool on the back. When I got there, Holly was nervous to see me. She went to me after setting a plate down on the table behind her. My chest burned with pain as she gave me a hug. "You frightened the hell out of me." "I am sorry, Holly, that was not my intention," I hugged her back. She jerked me away from her and toward the plate. Consume as much as you like. I do not mind if you withhold information from me, but you do not have to tell me the truth." I heard Holly chastise me, taking it all in like a man on a staff. Screaming could be heard in the backyard from the opposite end. The last thing I could remember was taking one step towards the edge. -CASSIDY- My eyes were heavy, my hand felt like it was being repeatedly sliced by a knife, and my whole body felt as though sandbags were resting on it—but my body was not prepared to stand up. I stayed there in the shadows of my thoughts, but when I opened my eyes, Jessy was scared. Apart from our classes together, Jessy plays football for the high school team. He is not ugly and he is friendly, but his two buck teeth get in the way of me. He is fit and slender, dressed in jeans, winter coats, boots, and a gray sweater. Despite the dryness in my throat, I opened my mouth without thinking and tried to say "we," but Jessy interrupted me by bending down to give me water through a straw. He put the cup back behind him after I finished the last drop of water. Upon realizing that I was on a mattress and becoming alarmed when my vision cleared enough to reveal that I was in the hospital, he exclaimed, "Jessy, why am I here?" I yell, instantly regretting it. The machines make loud noises that seem to come out of nowhere, and my throat hurts. When a nurse comes in, Jessy tries to comfort me by holding my shoulder. The nurse hit buttons on the machine and pushed him away from my side the entire time Jessy had me. She said in a tense tone, "Cassidy, you have to relax." It is too high heart rate for you. Please begin counting from one to one because I will have to put you into a coma if you do not stop screaming. Inhale deeply. I am going to be fine, she assures me. Please do not do that, at all. The Alpha will throw me in the cellars if he discovers that I disobeyed his orders. No, I must go to the town square and remain there until the Alpha grants me forgiveness. As I get out of bed, the monitor begins to beep erratically once more. The door to my room thuds open and the nurse tries to get me back in bed. The Alpha was on the door, his aura full of power, and everyone yielded to his arrogance. I do not feel anything, as usual, but I act scared and say things like, "Everyone but Cassidy, leave this room, NOW!" because I think he is affecting me. He lets out a roar. Jessy obeyed despite being irritated. Shutting the door behind her, the nurse departed as well. "Cassidy, recline in your bed. This is something I can accept. Still in charge, he said, "Just calm down." Why had he not become furious now? Alpha Bradly crossed his arms and sat next to my bed, slowly making his way back into it. Leaning his head against the wall, he said, "Luna Barbara is unable to act irrationally here. I promise to make sure my son and Luna follow my instructions if you do as I ask. The whole pack is aware of what happened to you, and I will not have my pack start a revolution because of your uncontrollably sudden loss of consciousness," he remarked angrily. His anger towards me for being hurt was incomprehensible. I was played by the Alpha of the future. Why must I endure pain for his son? I wanted to snarl. I wanted to growl and hurl something at him, but I was unable to. The Alpha of my pack had me beat. Being made fun of for something I had no control over was not right. A cast was placed over my hands. Now I knew my little secret was out. They knew that I was not a wolf. I was about to cry when the Alpha shoved me back into the bed and onto the bed. "You are wolf-less she-wolf, and lucky for you, I lied to the doctor about why your non-existent wolf was not healing you," he said, taking hold of my chin and moving my face to meet his eyes. "I did not do that on purpose," he whispered, "if my mate catches me going soft on you we will get in a lot more trouble Cassidy, is that what you want?" He placed his hand over my mouth again as I was about to scream in pain from my broken hand. Feeling a little desperate, he asked, "Why was he acting like I would run?" Why does Luna Barbara give a damn about his treatment of me? Is her hatred of me that great? For crying out loud, I had a bad headache and a broken hand, and I was in the hospital. What other outcomes are possible? That was the question I asked myself when Benjamin trailed behind Jessy as she opened the door. My headache grew worse as the pillow struck my head as the Alpha threw my face back. "So it is true, your wolf less, what a freaking waste, Dad exiled her," the alpha growled abruptly. "Warrior, go outside and shut that f*****g door."
