Chapter 5: The Accusation

1174 Words
Pete’s POV I have been conflicted for many months now. I was constantly emotionally torn between my mate bond and the obligation to my brother’s widow and the pack. My parents had strictly told me to do anything to keep Sharon happy so that she wouldn’t abandon the pack at its crucial financial moment. It hurt a lot. All I wanted was to be normal and enjoy my bond like any other normal werewolf. My Beta, Derek Suter, and Gamma Zadok Malon, were mated and were enjoying their relationships while I had to sacrifice mine for the pack. This is what I hated about being an Alpha. We are expected to live like robots with no feelings and to always put others before ourselves, and that is not a desirable thing about being an Alpha if you ask me. It hurt even more when I had to pretend not to feel anything while I was hurting my mate. I knew what it was doing to her, and yet I couldn't stop it “for the sake of the well-being of the pack,” as they say. I thought Sharon was going through a hard time and genuinely wanted to help her. Little did I know she had her own plans. It's not like I didn't see it all, because I did. Werewolves have the highest IQ, and I could tell her motives. Unfortunately, I realized that too late, when she had already manipulated me into abandoning my mate. I pretended I didn't see it all and went along with her demands, only for me to get stuck in them. I wish I had a capable member here who could run this business. I would most definitely not care if Sharon threatened to leave. I would be the one to dismiss her even. I finally mustered some courage to apologize to my mate and truly wanted to make it up to her, but I don't even understand how on earth she bumped into Sharon and beat her up. How was I supposed to solve this one now? If I'm too soft on Leia, Sharon will be mad and throw tantrums, but on the other hand, if I'm harsh on Leia, what I was trying to do earlier will be dismantled before it takes root. What if she never gets to trust my change of heart ever again? How was I supposed to live mate-less? Leia arrived just a few minutes after Sharon. Sharon sat on the couch with an ice pack pressed to her cheek, dramatically sobbing. Leia looked at me, looked at Sharon, and looked back at me. Her gaze spoke loudly. She was searching my eyes for an explanation. I hardened my expression and appeared unreadable. From training, we were taught that Alphas shouldn't show their emotions that easily. I have had an opportunity to practice it over the past ten months. Sadly, it was practiced on my mate. This was made easier by the fact that our mating ceremony wasn’t complete. I hadn’t marked her yet, and she couldn’t read my thoughts or emotions. She hadn’t been welcomed into the pack; therefore, she couldn’t talk to me or anyone telepathically. “What happened?” she asked after her gaze lingered on me a bit, as if she was trying to read me. “What happened? Shouldn’t you be the one to tell me what happened?” I snapped. How could she not hold herself together and get into a cat fight in human territory and still have the guts to ask me what happened? “Oh Pete, don’t be mad at Luna Leia, it wasn’t her fault, I provoked her. I only wanted to help her choose a nice dress. I guess she is mad at me or something,” Sharon said, looking pitiful. Even though I was tired of her endless demands, I didn’t think it was right for Leia to take out her frustrations on Sharon. Leia is a warrior wolf; she grew up training and building her physique. Sharon is just an over-pampered princess who wouldn’t know how to fight. Leia was wrong, and I wasn’t going to let her get away with it just because she was my mate. She should have understood from my apology earlier on that things were difficult for me. Instead of supporting me, she went and created another problem. My anger rose. “Wait, are you saying I did that?” Leia pointed at Sharon’s swollen face unbelievably. That only infuriated me even more. Was she simply telling me Sharon made that up? How would Sharon know about her selecting dresses and even describe what she wore if they hadn’t met in town? Was she going to deny that in front of me? Would Sharon really make that up and be so manipulative? I knew she wanted my attention and most probably wanted to get close to me with hopes of a romantic relationship, but she wouldn’t be so vindictive, would she? I was disappointed with Leia. Did I somehow misjudge her character in the past? What happened to the sweet girl I fell in love with years ago? “I did not touch you, Sharon, and you know that. You are the one who slapped me first and I…” I did not let her finish that sentence because, in her words, she just admitted that there was a fight between them. Even if Sharon started it, she obliged and beat her back. How could she fail to control her temper? “So, you are admitting that there was a fight between the two of you? I am so disappointed in you, Leia Westwood. Are you going to go around slapping people just because they started it, especially pack members? Is this how you are going to handle things in the pack like Luna?” I said, clearly disappointed. “I didn’t…” Leia still wanted to deny it, and that infuriated me even more. “Enough! You still want to deny it? What has gotten into you? When did you become this kind of person?” I cut her off. I saw hurt in her eyes, but I was still mad at her. Why was she giving Sharon leeway to want to steal her position even more? “You don't even want to hear my side of the story because you have already determined that what she told you was true, and I'm untruthful! Don’t you think you are biased, Alpha?” Leia said, her voice shaking. “I cannot tolerate this behavior anymore. If you cannot conduct yourself properly, then are you even fit to be Luna? You will remain in your room after you are done with your duties today. Do not create unnecessary scenes.” I used the Alpha command on her. I was done arguing with her. The Alpha command had worked on her for the past ten months, and it saved me a lot of face. I had no choice, because I wanted this to end.
