Katherine’s POV The black wolf growled again, a deeper growl this time, and stepped closer. I took one slow step back and my shoulder hit the cold bars behind me. My heartbeat was loud and fast, but I didn’t scream for the guards. That was exactly what Stephen wanted. He wanted me scared, desperate and begging. I wasn’t giving him that. The wolf kept stalking me, its claws scraping the ground with each slow step. It wasn’t rushing to kill me. It was watching everything I did. My breath shook but I stayed alert. When its nose twitched, I turned and ran. My feet slid on the wet stone floor but I kept moving. The cell was much bigger than I expected, long like a tunnel that went deeper under the palace. The torchlight disappeared fast and all I could see was darkness swallowing the wall
