VII - Hasty Preparations
Maria’s parents attacked her the moment she walked in the door. They were very unhappy with the couple’s rash decision. After years of acting the submissive, obedient daughter, Maria had endured enough of their domination. She tolerated their nagging and berating for about ten minutes before retreating to the bathroom and a much needed shower. She had enough to deal with right now and her parent’s grievances were at the bottom of her list.
She returned to the hospital an hour later. Maria went up to James’s room and pushed open the door. His stepmother looked up from her seat by his side. Lynn glanced at James and then held a finger to her lips. Maria hesitated, loath to disturb James if he was sleeping. His stepmother arose and ushered Maria into the hallway.
