“Oh, yeah!” she cried, giving her a wink. “I can see why you think he’s sexy!”
Maria gasped. Sarah darted away before either could speak, though. James smiled and reached for her hand. Maria refused to look at him and he sensed her intense embarrassment. Secretly, Sarah’s words pleased him and James felt happy with the overall reaction he was receiving tonight. It boosted his confidence.
James leaned closer to Maria. “I think you’re pretty sexy, too,” he whispered in her ear, hoping to make her feel better. She looked up and he gave her a reassuring kiss on the cheek.
Before the lights dimmed, he moved Maria to one side so she would have a better view when Lori made her entrance. There was much restless shuffling and laughter when the lights went out and James used the cover of darkness
