“Dad,” he heard himself say. “This is your grandson, Anthony James.” His father’s eyes flickered to his and James saw his genuine smile. Ben reached over and pulled the blanket away from Anthony’s face. He nodded, his eyes on the baby. “He’s such a small thing,” he commented. James chuckled. “Try convincing Maria of that! He’s six pounds, ten ounces,” he said, smiling at his son. Taking a deep breath, James peered at his father. “Do you want to hold him?” Ben appeared startled by his son’s offer, but held out his hands. James placed the infant in his arms, calling upon every ounce of trust and faith he had in his father.
