Caspian stood in his small room, the moonlight streaming through the broken shutter, and made a decision.
The training ground was too exposed. The library was too dusty. The healing room was too small.
He needed somewhere else. Somewhere secret. Somewhere no one would find him.
He needed a place where he could train without fear of discovery.
And he knew exactly where to go.
THE HIDDEN CAVE
Caspian slipped out of the Outer Sect in the dead of night.
The path was familiar—he had walked it a hundred times in his past life. Through the crumbling wall. Through the forest. Up the mountain path that no one used.
To the hidden cave.
It was small. Dark. Damp. But it was hidden from view. No one came here. No one knew it existed.
Except him.
And now, Georgina.
"Are you sure about this?" she asked, following him into the cave. "It's cold. Damp. The air is thin."
"It's perfect."
"Perfect for what?"
"Perfect for training."
He turned to face her. His eyes were bright with determination.
"I need to start my real training. The techniques I learned in my past life. The ones that made me the World's Strongest."
"Those techniques took you a hundred years to master."
"I don't have a hundred years. I have ten."
Georgina was silent for a moment.
"Then you'll need to train faster. Harder. Smarter."
"That's why I brought you here. I need your help."
"Help with what?"
"I need you to push me. To challenge me. To break me if you have to."
"You want me to hurt you?"
"I want you to make me stronger."
Georgina studied him. Her eyes were sharp and searching.
"You really are determined."
"I've never been more determined in my life."
She nodded slowly.
"Then we start tonight. But I'm warning you—it's going to be painful."
"I know."
"Painful like nothing you've ever experienced."
"I've died, Georgina. I know what pain is."
She smiled.
"We'll see."
THE FIRST TECHNIQUE
Georgina set up a small training ground in the cave.
She carved symbols into the stone floor. She arranged candles in a circle. She prepared herbs and potions.
"Tonight," she said, "we're going to work on your meridians."
"My meridians? They're already open."
"Open isn't the same as strong. Your meridians are wide open, but they're like a river—wide, flowing, but shallow. We need to make them deep."
"How?"
"You need to fill them with Qi. And keep them full. All the time."
"That's impossible. No one can keep their meridians full all the time."
"That's why you're going to be the first."
She knelt in front of him. Picked up a small brush and began drawing symbols on his skin.
"What are you doing?"
"This is a binding technique. It will hold the Qi in your meridians. It will force your body to adapt."
"Adapt to what?"
"Adapt to being full. All the time. Your body will learn to hold more Qi. It will grow stronger. Deeper. More powerful."
She finished the symbols. Stepped back.
"Now, focus. Pull the Qi into your meridians. Fill them completely."
He closed his eyes.
The Qi flowed through him—warm, strong, abundant. He filled his meridians completely. Felt them stretch and swell.
"Good. Now hold it. Don't let go."
He held it.
The pain came quickly—a burning, screaming pressure. His meridians felt like they were going to explode.
"Don't let go. Your body will adapt. You just have to survive."
I can do this. I've survived worse. I've died worse.
This is nothing.
This is nothing.
He held on.
HOURS LATER
Caspian collapsed.
His body was shaking. His meridians were screaming. But something had changed.
He could feel it. The Qi was flowing stronger now. Deeper. More powerful.
"It worked," Georgina said. "Your meridians have expanded. You can hold twice as much Qi as you could before."
He opened his eyes. Looked at his hands.
They were still his hands. But they felt different. Stronger. More alive.
"I can feel it. I can feel the difference."
"Good. Because that was just the beginning."
"The beginning?"
"We have five more techniques to practice tonight."
He stared at her.
"Five more?"
"You want to be strong? You want to save the world? Then you have to earn it."
He nodded. Slowly.
"Then let's keep going."
THE FIVE TECHNIQUES
The night was endless.
Each technique was more painful than the last. Each one pushed him to his limits—and beyond.
The first technique: Expanding the meridians.
The second: Refining the Qi.
The third: Strengthening the body.
The fourth: Sharpening the mind.
The fifth: Integrating everything—body, mind, Qi, spirit—into one unified whole.
By the time he finished, he could barely move.
"Your body will need time to recover," Georgina said. "But it will be stronger than before. Much stronger."
"How long until I can train again?"
"Two days. Maybe three."
"Too long."
"You can't rush this. The body needs time to heal."
"I don't have time."
"You have ten years. That's plenty of time."
He shook his head.
"Ten years sounds like a long time. But it's not. It's the blink of an eye. The Calamity will come, and if I'm not ready..."
He trailed off.
Georgina put a hand on his shoulder.
"You'll be ready. I'll make sure of it."
THE NEXT DAY
Caspian woke in his room.
His body was sore. Every muscle, every bone, every meridian felt like it had been through a war.
But he felt stronger.
He stood up. Tested his meridians. The Qi flowed smoothly, powerfully, deeply.
Georgina was right. My meridians have expanded. I can hold twice as much Qi as before.
If I keep this up, I'll reach the Foundation Realm in two weeks.
Two weeks.
And then the real work begins.
He walked to the door. Opened it.
Juniper was standing outside.
"You've been training," she said. "I can feel it. Your Qi is different."
"Where did you learn to feel Qi?"
"I grew up in the Inner Sect. I've been around cultivators my whole life. You're not the only one who can sense things."
He nodded slowly.
"Thank you. For not telling anyone."
"You trusted me with your secret. I'm trusting you with mine."
"Your secret?"
She smiled. It was a wry smile.
"My father isn't just an Elder. He's one of the most powerful men in the sect. And he's not the man everyone thinks he is."
"What do you mean?"
"He's... troubled. Obsessed. He's been looking for something his entire life. Something he can't find."
"What is he looking for?"
She looked at him. Her eyes were sharp and searching.
"The same thing you are. The truth about the Calamity. The truth about the system. He knows it exists. He just doesn't know how to stop it."
Caspian's blood went cold.
Dorian Creed knows about the Calamity?
He's been searching for the truth?
Why?
"Juniper..."
"I know. It's dangerous. But I thought you should know."
"Thank you. For telling me."
She nodded. Turned to leave.
"Juniper."
She stopped.
"Your father. Is he a threat to me?"
She was silent for a long moment.
"Not yet. But he will be. If he finds out what you're doing, he'll try to stop you."
"Why?"
"Because he's scared. He's been looking for the truth for so long that he's forgotten how to trust it."
She walked away.
Caspian stood in the doorway, watching her go.
Dorian Creed. Juniper's father. He knows about the Calamity.
He's been searching for the truth.
But when he finds it, he'll try to stop me.
Why?
Because he's scared?
Scared of what?
Scared of the truth?
Or scared of what I'll do with it?
THE CAVE AGAIN
Caspian returned to the cave that night.
Georgina was waiting for him.
"Tonight," she said, "we're going to work on your body."
"My body? What's wrong with it?"
"Nothing. But it could be stronger. Faster. More resilient."
"Faster? I'm already fast."
"You're fast for a normal person. But you're not going to fight normal people."
She drew more symbols on the cave floor. Placed more candles. Prepared more potions.
"Tonight, I'm going to push your body to its limits. You're going to run. You're going to climb. You're going to fight."
"And if I fail?"
"Then you fail. And we try again tomorrow."
She smiled.
"Don't worry. I've trained people before. No one's died yet."
"Yet?"
She laughed.
"Relax. I'm kidding. Mostly."
THE TRAINING
He ran until his legs gave out.
He climbed until his arms gave out.
He fought until his body gave out.
And then he did it all over again.
Georgina pushed him relentlessly. She didn't give him a moment to rest. She didn't give him a moment to breathe.
"Keep going. Don't stop. You're not done yet."
"I... can't..."
"You can. You're the World's Strongest. Remember?"
She shoved him forward.
"Now move!"
He moved.
THE BREAKTHROUGH
Something snapped.
Not his bones. Not his muscles. Something deeper.
His body transformed.
He felt it in his meridians, in his muscles, in his bones. He felt it in his heart, in his mind, in his soul.
He was stronger. Faster. More resilient.
He was more than he had been.
"Good," Georgina said. "You've reached the first breakthrough."
"The first breakthrough? There are more?"
"Many more. But this is the first. This is the foundation."
She knelt beside him.
"Your body is now capable of holding more power. Your meridians are deeper. Your muscles are stronger. Your mind is sharper."
"Thank you. I couldn't have done this without you."
She smiled.
"I know."
He laughed. It was a weak laugh, but it was genuine.
"Now rest," she said. "Tomorrow, we start again."
THE MORNING
Caspian woke in his room.
His body was sore. Exhausted. But stronger.
Much stronger.
He stood up. Tested his meridians. The Qi flowed smoothly, powerfully, effortlessly.
I've reached the first breakthrough. The first step on the path to true power.
If I keep this up, I'll reach the Foundation Realm in one week.
One week.
And then the real work begins.
He walked to the door. Opened it.
The Outer Sect was quiet. The disciples were training. The Elders were in their chambers.
Everyone is doing what they've always done. No one knows what's coming.
But I know.
And I'm ready.
Ready to grow.
Ready to fight.
Ready to save the world.
He walked into the training ground.
And he smiled.
