Daniel POV
It pains me deeply to see Sarah frightened of Luca—my wolf. The ache in my chest intensifies when I notice her withdrawing from my touch, as if afraid of the very connection we share.
I wonder how I can mend this rift, how I can ease her fears and restore her trust. The thought of losing my mate, especially under these circumstances, terrifies me; I cannot bear to lose her, not like this, not without trying everything in my power to make things right.
"Mate is scared of us because you just told her a world that she never knew existed. Give our mate some space, and she will come around," Luca stated. "How can you be so sure of that. Did you not see the fear in her eyes?" I said.
I'm ready to head back now, if that's okay," Sarah announced, her voice snapping me out of my contemplative mental dialogue with my wolf. "Sure, Sarah. That's fine. The car ride was awkwardly quiet, and I could tell Sarah was uneasy. "Say something to her, anything to lighten the mood," Luca suggested.
What should I say to her that won't deepen her fear or push her away? I asked myself. "Put yourself in her position. Imagine for a moment that everything you've been told or have learned throughout your entire life is a lie. How would you feel? Now, try to soothe her fears," Luca advised me.
I grip the steering wheel intensely, my knuckles turning white from the force, as I struggle to find the right words. Taking a deep breath, I look over at Sarah and say, "Sarah, I realize that today isn't what you probably expected, sharing the day like this with me. I'm sorry for overwhelming you with so much information all at once. But I need you to do one thing for me—promise me you will keep an open mind about everything I've shared today," I tell her, my voice trembling slightly with the weight of my emotions.
I patiently waited for her answer, gripping the steering wheel even tighter as I fought to keep my composure, trying desperately to control the surge of anxiety building within me.
"I will take the time to carefully reflect on everything you've shared and genuinely try to keep an open mind throughout this process. However, I must admit that what you've told me is a lot to process, and it feels somewhat overwhelming. This is a life-changing situation, and I need some space to contemplate how my life might look both with you in it and without you, so I can make the best possible decision about my future," she stated.
Sarah's words cut deep, piercing through my confidence as I grappled with the overwhelming fear that I might lose my mate. Her harsh tone and pointed comments left me feeling helpless and uncertain about our future.
Unable to find the right words to respond to her hurtful remarks, I hung my head in quiet despair. Luca, sensing my distress, gently reached out and offered me reassurance: "Ensure our mate that you will give her the space she needs," he advised softly, hoping to ease the tension and convey our understanding and support.
I looked at Sarah with a calm but serious expression, taking a deep breath to steady myself before I spoke. Then, I gently said, "Sarah, I want you to know that I will give you all the space and time you need to figure things out. Please don't feel pressured, and just let me know when you have reached a decision that feels right for you."
I truly don't want to lose Sarah. I had already waited nearly a year to be with her, and now, suddenly, I find myself uncertain about what the future holds for us. As I continued driving, Sarah softly whispered to me.
I couldn't tell if she was feeling scared or mentally exhausted, or perhaps both, which made her choose to speak quietly. "Can you take me home?" she asked. I nodded silently, not feeling like speaking at the moment, content to just listen and process everything happening between us.
When I finally arrived at her apartment building, I noticed that she didn't wait for me to open the car door; instead, she quickly exited the vehicle on her own. Without even turning around to say goodbye, Sarah hurriedly got out and headed inside. I paused for a moment to turn off the car, then hurried after her to walk her to the entrance of her apartment building.
I accompanied Sarah as she made her way to her apartment door, just as I always do. She paused and turned to face me, her eyes meeting mine before we reached her doorstep. "You don't have to walk me to my door, Daniel. I'll be fine on my own," she said softly. I looked at her with sincerity and replied, "I'll always care for you and protect you, Sarah, no matter what happens between us."
I watched as Sarah stepped into her apartment, a pensive look on her face, contemplating whether this was ultimately the end of a relationship that had never truly taken hold. Luca, trying to provide reassurance, said, "Our mate didn't reject us. She just needs some space."
An entire week went by without any word from Sarah. I kept trying to reach out to her multiple times—sending texts, only to end up deleting the messages before sending them in frustration. I also attempted to call her numerous times. Still, each call, I would immediately end the call before it would ring, leaving me feeling increasingly anxious and uncertain about what was going on.
Two weeks have now passed without any communication from Sarah. During this period, I experienced another security breach in my system. Several files were compromised or lost, but my team was able to recover them using backup copies. By tomorrow morning, I expect to have identified the hacker's IP address.
Luca remained remarkably calm and composed even as I was overwhelmed with stress and anxiety. He lingered gently in tge back of my mind, offering words of reassurance and encouragement. "Everything will be fine, Daniel," he said softly. "You just need to be patient, and good things will come our way in due time." His calming presence helped me feel more hopeful amidst my worries.
