When Barlow wheeled their vehicle into an alley about a block away from Masra’s new residence, Mallory picked up the shotgun and climbed out of the Jeep. “I won’t be long, Gunny. Just gonna tell her the good news and see what she’s got to say. Back in under an hour.” Ducking inside the shabby building, Mallory smelled burned coffee and some sort of cooking spice that made his eyes water. He headed for the apartment Masra had indicated was the last one on the right at the head of the second story stairwell. He began to climb and heard crying kids and corrective shouts in Arabic.
