Jennings held his position until the rounded glacis plate of the lead Centurion dipped and the tank halted just two feet away from him. Right up to that moment he was fairly sure he was going to be run down but his prayers were answered just in time to avoid it. There seemed to be a deathly silence as Jennings stared at the buttoned-up tank now idling and rumbling close enough for him to touch by just stretching out an arm.
