Rain fell steadily against the tall glass windows of the manor, soft at first, then heavier as the evening deepened. I stood by the window in my room, my fingers lightly brushing the edge of the curtain as I watched droplets race against the glass. The garden below looked different beneath the rain; darker, almost dreamlike, the flowers bowing gently beneath the wind. My mind drifted back to Ethan and our conversation in the garden.
