Blank Stare

Prologue

Sophia was staring blankly at the sky.

As the steady autumn breeze started to slowly blow away her long red hair , Sophia thought she could look at the white cotton-like clouds in the sky for an eternity. It was so soothing, brushing away all of her anxiety. The vast yet empty sky reminded her of the empty void in her heart which she first discovered when she was a child. The void which she is still trying to fill up. The void which has connected lots of people into founding the brotherhood.

In a short distance , a youth who is known as David in the brotherhood was secretly observing Sophia. He knew what Sophia was going to do next and he also knew that the brotherhood doesn't approve her actions. Still, he couldn't left her alone. No matter how capable she is or the fact that she is no longer a member of brotherhood ; he wanted to support her in the best way he could. The problem is he didn't know what to do. And nobody wanted him to do anything.

David mustered up the courage and called out for Sophia. As she faced towards him, he suddenly noticed the tears falling from her eyes over her cheeks. Her face gave away the expression of sadness yet she was smiling. Like when someone remembers a sweet memory and ponder about it.

"Are you all right ?" David asked her hastily.

"Hmm. Had a kinda sweet dream yesterday. I was just pondering about it " Sophia replied with refreshing smile.

"About that boy , I presume ? " David chuckled.

"Hmm. Let's put that aside. Why are you here? Did you need me ?" Sophia sounded a bit worried

"You bet i do" David thought. But he said instead,

"No, actually I thought if you needed me. But I think I don't have to worry about you, do I? You will be completely fine on your own. I just wanted to say goodbye." 

"Thanks. I know you are the only one in the brotherhood who support this force awakening process of the monster I am about to start doing in few days. Don't worry about me. I won't let you down for your support." 

"The truth is'" David sounded gloomy " I can't but worry! Why we need to force awaken him? Why you are the one who have to do this? Why can't the brotherhood stay by your side in this?"

Sophia patted on David's shoulder and said," It was decided, I guess." Then she smiled a little and said," But you know what, the whole thing is about to find out who decides it and why they decides. What an irony, isn't it?"

David wanted to say a lot of things in return but he shrugged of his anxiety and said," I am kinda jealous of that boy, you know. Sometimes I imagine what would have happened if I were in his place!"

Sophia answered in a harsh tone, " That can't be. Because it was decided."
