Chapter 15: Hybrid Family Failures {D. K} "Your heart's beating really fast," Dakota commented walking alongside Klaus whose hands were shaking giddily. Ray had woken in the car, shakily given the location of the pack only to pass out from the blood loss. He was currently being held fireman style on Klaus' shoulder. "It's finally happening, love. My army of hybrids, strong enough to defeat anyone who poses a threat. I've waited so long for this, and now, I have my army." Klaus dropped Rays unconscious body on the dirt, a girl ran over brushing over her pack members bloodied cheeks. "Who are you?" "I'm Klaus." She slowly stood up, wiping the dirt off of her butt. "The hybrid." Klaus grinned smugly. "You've heard of me. Fantastic." He sat down on a log, pulling Dakota down with him, keeping a hand on her knee. "Isn't it fascinating, love? A werewolf who isn't beholden to the moon. A vampire not burning in the sun." The one female werewolf who came for Ray shook noticeably, her hair matted slightly with her sweat. Ray awoke with a gasp, his eyes wide with fear. "Ray, welcome back to the land of the living—well kind of. . I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of the dramatics." "What's happening to me?" "Dakota, darling please hurry this along. I'm growing rather impatient." "Is anyone here human?" Silence cast over the camp. "Your friend Ray here needs human blood to complete the transformation, without it he'll die." Her tentative eyes looked at each person stopping at a man with charming blue eyes and dirty blonde hair. "You." "No!" Klaus scooped up the wolf before she reached and harmed Dakota out of anger, but Dakota continued as if behind her Klaus hadn't just created another hybrid for his army. Instead, she was biting a major vein in the humans wrist, letting the blood drip while Ray watched it pour out, his tongue salivating at the tempting sight. "Drink Ray, or I'll do it for you. Except I don't care about this handsome fella, I'll suck him dry and make it so excruciatingly painful that he won't have the sense of mind to think about alternative ways that he could've went so that he wouldn't have to feel such pain." Ray hesitated before latching onto the humans wrist, drinking the blood like water, but all too soon Dakota pushed Ray roughly off the man. "Save some for everyone else." She patted the blonde man's cheek who's hypnotic eyes were filled with unspoken fear. "Don't give me that look, you have a lot of people to feed tonight." Every werewolf on the camp was dead for nearly half an hour, but Klaus didn't seem to be bothered by how much time it took to create them, as long as they were being created. When they awoke, each took turns drinking from the blue-eyed humans wrist until almost every drop of blood was expelled from his body. "Such a trooper," Dakota cooed, running her fingers through his blonde hair that was messy and had dirt in it. Klaus watched as she healed the human, handing his already fragile body with care that she didn't use on the other victims. "Careful love, your humanity is showing." "I'm not hiding it." She retorted. "You care about some weak human?" Dakota stood quickly, glaring at Klaus with her heated brown eyes that were glazed over with anger. "I don't care about the stupid human Klaus, but he's just been fed on my multiple people for over an hour, excuse me for wanting to cover up our tracks seeing as though Damon is already on my tail." The hybrid retracted, suddenly feeling guilty for yelling at her about her decisions that had a pure meaning. "I'm sorry." "Don't apologize to me, just stop being a dick." Dakota glanced over at Ray that was shaking, rocking back and forth on the log as his wounds still bled. "What's with him?" Taking notice in what she was talking about, Klaus looked at his first attempt of a hybrid with worry. "He should be healing by now." Blood dripped from Ray's eyes, making a trail down his face and dripping to the dirt. "That doesn't look like healing." She spoke, all of the werewolves around her seemed to be having the same issue. "Actually, none of them seem to be healing." "What is this?" Klaus shouted. "I've done everything. I killed the werewolf. I killed the vampire. And I killed the doppelgänger, this should be working." Suddenly it made sense to Dakota, it wasn't working because Elena was still alive. In both of their moments of destraction, Ray had ran off. "Go get him." Following the orders given to her, Dakota ran off to Ray. Tackling him to the ground and harboring a werewolf bite in the process. She groaned in pain. "I know she's here somewhere Elena, and I'm not leaving until I get her." "She wanted to go Damon." "Where did he go?" Klaus's voice sounded from behind her, causing Dakota to turn around and face him, pain etched on her face knowing that he wouldn't pay attention to anything else except her. "He ran off, I'll get him though." Klaus caught her wrist, looking down at the werewolf bite that already looked very nasty. "Why didn't you tell me he bit you?" "Figured you wouldn't heal me until I found him anyway," She shrugged. Klaus bit into his wrist, offering it to Dakota who took it until the bite healed. Klaus rubbed his finger on her cheek, wiping his blood from the side of her lip. "I wouldn't have let you die love." "I have to go find Ray." While running for said hybrid, she caught a scent. Following it quickly, she saw the trio standing over Rays dead body. "Let me guess, hybrid." Alaric said looking down at his dead body. "He was supposed to be," Dakota stepped through the trees making herself visible. "—but since she's still living they won't be." Damon stared at his missing friend carefully, she'd changed, that much he knew since she came back to kill his little play toy a few days prior. But now, looking at her, she was different. "What happened to you?" "Nothing Damon," She glanced behind her, making sure Klaus wasn't behind her. "—but something will happen to you if you don't leave. The hybrids aren't turning and the second Klaus finds out its because dopplebitch isn't actually dead, it's not going to be my head on a silver platter, let me tell you." Elena looked worriedly at Alaric and Damon. "Maybe she's right. Damon we found her, you know she's alright. So we can go, right?" Damon rolled his eyes at Katherine's look-a-like. "I didn't come to make sure you were alright, I came to take you home." "Damon, leave. I don't want to go home, I'm happy here." The lie came easily, but part of her wasn't even lying. The time she'd spent with Klaus was so exhilarating and fun. She got to get out of her shell and open up a part of her that she'd yearned for for decades. "Kota, you saved me. It's time for me to return the favor. He won't suspect a thing, lets go." Dakota resisted as Damon grabbed her wrist. "I don't want you to return the favor Damon, I want you to leave so you are not killed. I saved you once, but I don't think I'll be able to save you again." "Dakota jus—" "Go, or I'll tell Klaus that she's still alive." Elena's eyes widened, shocked that Dakota would threaten them even though she was the one who helped them save her in the first place. "You wouldn't." "Dakota, darling what's taking so long?" Staring up at the trio, Dakota replied. "I just found something interesting, that's all." Their eyes widened in fear that she would actually rat them out. Instead, she picked up Ray, ripping the arrow out and giving it to Ric, she walked back into the forrest. "I told you to find him, not kill him Dakota." "I wouldn't have had to kill him if he wasn't going to try to kill me first Nik." "My hybrids are dead, Dakota." "Looks like that new era of yours is going to have to wait then, huh?"
