79 Tom hadn’t driven far when a black Mercedes appeared behind him. It followed him through the city streets. He made three quick turns just to make sure he wasn’t being paranoid. The car stayed on his tail. He sensed something familiar about it; some current was running through his synapses and he felt his body tensing. Tom pushed his BMW hard and got onto the expressway, heading towards Newcastle. The Mercedes was still gaining though Tom had hit 170 kilometres per hour. Nothing goes that fast, he thought. He plugged down even harder and his X5-M hit 200, but the Mercedes kept pace. “Ok, f**k it,” Tom said. “Time to see the sights of Lane Cove, you bastards.” He hit the exit lane at 150 and swung over a barricade, slamming onto Lane Cove Road, swerving through the lanes of traffic.
