David's legs dragged him closer tot he fountain. His face leaned forward to the very center, beyond the large edge of the base, and there he saw his face, distorted by the rippling effect of the water. Then, his reflection opened his mouth wide, and a column of water jerked up hitting his face. David, caught by surprise, came back to reality and almost fell backward. He stepped away from the fountain, looked around as he frantically rubbed his eyes, and ran to where he came, without looking back once. David reached the top of the trail again, and began looking for an alternative way to proceed. He pointed the staff against the walls of the tunnel, searching for a passage.
