Helena POV
My head started spinning with the realization and I felt blood run down between my legs. I bit my lower lips, and I was engulfed in the darkness while the man brought out a gun and pointed at me. I never got the chance to even tell him about the baby inside of me. Well… we're both leaving this world together now.
My eyes slowly opened, but I shut them back immediately because of the bright light that almost blinded me. I winced as the light gave me a slight headache, but then it occurred to me that I should be dead. I shouldn't be able to see light anymore.
Did I survive?
My heart raced at the idea and I immediately flung my eyes open. The first thing that came to view was the white ceiling of wherever I was. I sat up and scanned my surroundings. I realized I was in a hospital, although I was in a private room.
How did I get here? From what I recall, my kidnappers were ready to kill me then and there. There was no way to escape unless someone helped me…
Did David later come back and get me out? My heart skipped a beat at this idea, but I didn't dwell on it much longer. If he did, it was too little, too late. I will be getting a divorce from that man no matter what it takes.
Later, a nurse entered the room to check up on me and from her, I got to find out that I had been asleep for two weeks now and that my baby was gone. I figured as much, no way my baby would have survived after all I went through and how badly I was bleeding before I passed out. Honestly, I'm not too sad we had to part ways. It would have been miserable if it had a father like David.
I spent another week in the hospital before I was discharged. During my time in the hospital, neither David nor anyone from my family came to pay me a visit, not even once. It reconfirmed what I already knew, that they didn't see me as part of them and, at this point, I was numb to it.
But this also made me question if David was actually the one who rescued me and brought me to the hospital. On my way out after being discharged, I asked the receptionist at the entrance of the hospital about who had brought me to the hospital and paid my bills?
“The man asked me to give you his card. Here it is, ma'am.” She handed me the card and went back to her work.
She didn't answer my question, but he probably didn't give her much information about himself, so she couldn't say. He probably wants to keep this confidential, which is making me more curious about who my savior is.
Unfortunately, I had to go back to the Hamilton Mansion, where I live with my husband, who's almost never at home, and my in-laws. I had been dreading going back to that mansion throughout my stay at the hospital and I wished I could stay longer, but it's now time to face them and get my life back.
If I was going to severe my ties with them then I'd need to see them especially since all my belongings is there and my credit cards.
I was greeted with a scowl at the gate by the man positioned there to see who enters and leaves. I didn't mind his rudeness as it was nothing new, and I was prepared to face even the worst once I entered the main house and, true to my thoughts, I was greeted with a slap from my mother-in-law.
“So you finally decided to show yourself… finally graced us with your presence.” She scoffed as her frown deepened by the minute.
I was emotionally exhausted to even fight back or engaged in any sort of way. I just kept quiet and stared at her as she went on berating me.
“I thought you were kidnapped and were going to die? How come you're here alive and well, you con artist!” She yelled so all the maids could hear. She did this, so everyone would know who held power in the house and how to treat me. “I almost thought you actually were dead, fool me.”
“Honestly, I wished you actually died! That would explain why a daughter-in-law wouldn't return to her home for a month. Only god knows what dirty things you've been up to!”
After hearing that, I was done listening to her and decided to just walk to my room, seeing how David hadn't shown himself or his mother had called for him to take her side. He must not be at home right now although that's to be expected, because he rarely comes here and spends most of his time with his mistress, Rose.
“How dare you walk out on me!” She yelled and lunged at me. From the way she reached out her hand I could tell she was going to grab my hair. I was done feeling no sort of pain, so I got out of the way in time, and she stripped and fell to the ground. I didn't help and just quickly went up to my room and began packing.
I took all my jewelry and credit card to my personal saving account, some of my clothes and left that mansion without looking back. I was done living a miserable life there, and I was ready to severe my ties with them.
I went to a hotel to stay while I was looking for where to stay and also contacted a divorce lawyer. I wanted the marriage to be annulled as soon as possible.
David was served the divorce three days later and during the time I left the mansion, he never called me once, but after the divorce was sent to him, he suddenly called me.
