Clarissa stood in front of the mirror when Odeth straightened her outfit. She looked gorgeous wearing a satin dress with white flower accents on the hem. Unfortunately, Clarissa looked unhappy.
"Why are you sad, Miss?" Odeth asked.
"I didn't want this proposal, Odeth," Clarissa replied. "I don't want to lie. Especially not to my son. Even though Loris is Michael's brother, I don't want him to replace Michael."
Odeth understood Clarissa's feelings. It was the first time as a servant in this house that she had seen Clarissa fall in love with a man. Clarissa must have felt very depressed and sad.
"I can't help you, Miss," Odeth replied. "But I understand how you feel."
Clarissa sighed repeatedly. She wanted so badly to go to the border and see Michael, but that couldn't be done.
