Clarissa looked at Michael, who seemed silent in her father's library. After breakfast, George McLaren had to rush to the palace to do his business. He allowed Michael into the library with Clarissa, but it wasn't just the two of them. Odeth was there to protect them from scandal.
"Why are you keeping quiet? Just tell me what's on your mind," Michael said. He knew Clarissa had been watching him.
"I was just wondering why you came to my house when you were drunk last night," Clarissa replied in a very low voice so Odeth wouldn't hear her. She also looked around, making sure Odeth didn't know anything.
Michael also saw Odeth. He deliberately blocked Clarissa's view of Odeth.
"She won't say anything to your mother," Michael said.
"How do you know? Servants are the best gossipers," said C
