Chapter 4: What have I become?

1124 Words
Kornelius's POV I walked away, leaving her on the ground. I went back into the house. And then I brought two kids out of the basement, giving them knives each. I told them to fight for their lives and I knew both were siblings. I watched the kids stab themselves while crying. Meanwhile, Jacob was still outside attending to the body. *Jacob stared blankly for seconds before lifting her up. Jacob took her into the house and laid her before me. Jacob saw the commotion. I had cursed and screamed at them to place the knives down. Jacob charged at me, shoving me against the wall, punching the living daylight out of me, but I didn’t fight back. Jacob paused. I walked back to the couch to continue watching the game. He looked at me in anger and said, “You know you could have handled things differently, right, you did not have to kill her. *I looked up at Jacob and down to the body on the floor, and directed my eyes back at the television without a response. Jacob grabbed the remote and turned off the television and glared at me with pure rage. I walked off into the bathroom to clear my mind and by the time I came out, Jacob wasn’t home. I went back to the living room and stared at the body for a second, wondering *how I was going to hide the body.* I went into the kitchen and brought a butcher knife. I butchered the body before Jacob came home and cleaned all the blood all over the floor. I stuffed the parts of her body in the old freezer in the garage that no one uses. I took a part of her body to the kitchen and made dinner with it. *Jacob soon returned home* I called out his name: “Jacob, I made an apology at dinner for that absurd stunt I pulled earlier.” He looked at me and chuckled. “Dinner? Since when did you start cooking? Besides, I’m hungry, so it had better be good,” he said. He looked down to the floor. “Where’s the body?” he said in confusion. I instantly said, “Oh, I took care of it.” *Jacob sighed* “ You better have. We can’t let anyone be a little suspicious of us,” Jacob said. *I tapped on the dining table and gestured for Jacob to have a seat. He walked over and lifted the lid of the pot on the table. “That smells amazing,” he said while sitting down. I scooped him a plate of pasta with the perfectly minced meat. Jacob rolled it on his fork and took a bite. “Woah, I didn’t know you could cook like that buddy, this is great.” *I smiled* “Yeah, it’s nothing serious. I do have a bit of experience. I grabbed myself a plate as well and sat on the couch enjoying my meal. *ring ring* My phone started ringing and Jacob picked it up for me. “Who is that??”I muttered. “A-Lex-an-dra,” Jacob mouthed. I told him to tell her that I wasn’t with him at the moment and left my phone at his place. He gestured a thumbs up. “Hello Alexa, what’s up?” She stayed quiet for a second. “Who’s this?” “It’s Jacob, probably not who you were expecting, but Kornelius isn’t with me at the moment, but he left his phone here for some reason.” “Oh, thank you. Make sure he knows I called its kind of important.” “Of course.” *he hangs up* …a few days later… Alexandra and I were in the bedroom, and she just got off a work call. She turns to me in joy, “My boss, Judge Mashlati, needs more detectives in the firm and I kind of suggested you” *I laughed* “Detective? Oh baby, I’m a lawyer, but I got fired from my old job. Aren’t they in need of a lawyer? “Well no, they aren’t. Sorry” *I thought for a bit* I realized to execute my plan, with the aim of not getting caught. I would need to become a detective who’s covering up his own crimes. *I stayed quiet for a bit thinking* Alexandra asked what I was thinking. And I said, “Oh, I can use my law degree to become a detective for a new change.” *She smiled* “Really? That would be so amazing, I need to tell my boss she’ll be overjoyed.” I hid my smile unless she would have known something was up. …A month later… Alexandra called me while she was at work. “Hello Kornelius, Guess what”, she said in excitement. “What, you fell at work today?”I said. *She giggled over the phone* “Actually, no, well yes I did, but that’s not why I am calling. I have great news, Kor.” “Okay now I am getting impatient. Just say it.” “Kornelius, you passed all the requirements!” “Requirements for what?” I said in pure confusion. Alexandra’s voice changed. “Do you forget that easily, or you just don’t care? Anyway, you uhm got accepted to work in the agency as a detective. Woohoo! I guess” “Oh wow really, that’s good,” I said with no excitement because I predicted it a while ago. Alexandra became a little annoyed. “Why do you act this way, Kor? I literally put my job aside clearing all your paperwork and setting up all your qualifications.” *I hesitated* “Okay, I’m sorry. I know I can be a total jerk at times. How about I make it up with dinner when you come home?” *Her mood brightens up* “I have always been the one doing all the cooking. I never knew you cooked though, but either way, that would be great. I would love that.” “Alright then, I’ll make your fav.” *She chuckles, then hangs up.* …A few hours later… I rushed over to Jacob’s house. He looked at me in confusion but didn’t ask a thing. I went to the garage to get a piece of meat in the unused fridge to prepare dinner for Alexandra. I opened the lid of the fridge and behold, the body parts of the girl I slaughtered were no longer there. Then I saw a shadow behind me, I turned around quickly to see Jacob standing behind me holding a sledgehammer. Before I could even utter a word, he slammed it on my head and I blacked out.
