Dedicated to Maddie, a friend I have not heard from in a long time…you are special. Note: I may be getting ahead of myself, but I find it important to note, I have had recent experiences that made this possible. A sequel that wouldn’t have existed otherwise. So, with that said, please enjoy the second installment! Short Story 1: The Hallway Spook It had been a normal day. Things were looking up and I felt happy. I lived in a group home where I could learn to manage my mental health. Having lived in the house for three years, I realized that I could make it into an apartment from the program. I remember I wanted to take a nap. We were allowed one hour, but that was it. As I made my way into my room, I grabbed out my phone to check for texts. Seeing none, I set the phone down, thinking about my nap. I don’t know why, but I was compelled to grab my phone and look up scary videos. Whatever possessed me to do so made me look up a certain movie scene. As I watched the video, I had a pit in my stomach. Why? I am safe at home. As the clip reached its scary conclusion I felt my heart leap. “Oy, what a scary scene,” I had said to myself before attempting to lie down. For some reason, as I lay there with my eyes closed and my black ball cap covering my face, I felt I was being watched. Sighing heavily, I removed my hat and turned towards the hallway. My heart skipped a beat. A dark shadowy figure sped through the hallway. I lay there in fear. Probably one of my housemates, I told myself. But little did I know, this would only be one of a few experiences I’d have. My true question at the moment was, “Is that shadow real? Did some specter walk in the hall? Was it malevolent?” These were questions even now I have inside me. But for all I know, it could’ve been my imagination. It’s silly, how a minor experience could shape my next few days.
