"I'm married!" I spat it out before my mother could finish her sentence. I was irritated by the fact that she had arbitrarily chosen my course of action. My mother's authoritarian tendencies made it difficult to breathe while I was in the same room as her, despite the fact that our relationship wasn't particularly strained.
