I am about serving the last customer. I turn back to take the whiskey and reach for a glass cup. Olivia appear from the door that led upstairs. The VIP section. She works there. "Bee." Her voice is low. Urgent. "It's about time." "Wait." I quickly pour the whiskey into the tiny glass cup and place it in front of the old man at the table. He don’t look up. They never did. I walk over to Olivia. She folds her arm. Just standing there, waiting. "Olivia, you don't really think I can do this." "You can. We've been through many risks together." But it wasn't me. Girlie. This is not your Bee. "And we're not as gorgeous as those prostitutes at the VIP. They've probably already swarmed the place. We stand no chance. We’re just going there to grab the prize.” "You sure?" My eyes linger. Fear. Of being the pick. Of being the one they pointed at. "Just think of it as a way to fund yourself. You'll be fine. Okay?" I nod vehemently. Obedient. She grabs my hand and pulls me toward the stairs. I gallop behind her as her steps steady up the stairs. —— The room upstairs was so heavily organized into a party hall. Men sat on a long sofa as sparkling multicolored bulb spread sharp light across their faces. The ceiling is high and the room is lavishly colorful. Chandelier hang from the ceiling casting the a colorful light over everyone face. I don’t know Dominion has something this big and luxurious upstairs. But why the f**k does he care about every penny we make downstairs when he has something this big up here. That old piece of s**t is really selfish. Some girls are already dressed in exotic clothes, shiny makeups and high heels. No one could think something this hot is going on up here. I looked around and sighed. I clearly stand no chance in here. Some men are already eyeing girls. And since no one paid attention to me. I am surely safe. “Get yourself together, we can do this.” Olivia voice was less than a whisper. I nodded and we both move into the dressing room. They are different kind of clothes and I pick the shabbiest one I could think of. An oversized blouse and a black skirt. I used the normal lipstick and walked out. Olivia is even more fancier. But we both are probably the poorest looking. “You don’t have to make it this bad.” She walk over to me and help me adjust the sleeve of my blouse that are out of place. “I just need that cash. Nothing more.” I grumble looking up at her. “It’s okay.” The music is loud and I could barely hear what people around me are saying. I keep avoiding eye contacts and shield myself with Olivia. After a while, Dominion step out. Wearing a back coat. Expensive and professional. He clearly mean business up here. He collect the mic from the DJ and bow a little. “Hello everyone.” His deep voice filled the room. Everyone shouts and I just stay there. Behind Olivia. Away from them. As far as I can. “Today ‘stay and win’ is about to start and our guest for today is a young billionaire…” The girl scream deafeningly. Maybe they think it is their chance to become a billionaire chick or something. But I don’t think that should be my concern now. I just want to know about my past, how I get here. Everything else can come afterward. But wait? One guest?! Does that mean he is not here before and what every other person has being doing doesn’t matter. Like he can literally come in and pick anyone no matter how hard they’ve hid themselves from everyone present. My heart races and I look at Olivia. She looks ignorant. She hasn’t realize the fact. “And he is Robert Johnson.” He finally says spreading his hand like someone calling on to the gods. “So you’ll girls would line up and he’ll come over to pick the queen of the night.” Queen of the night? Line up? Everything just seems ridiculous. I feel like running out of the room but a second thought hold me. Your school fees! The only disguise you can hold on to. And a reassurance runs down my spine. “You’re not as glowed up as other girls.” I hold my breath and breath out heavily. Girls hurry up to the line and I walk slowly with Olivia in front of me. Still my shield. My heart hammers in my chest as I walk toward the already long line. I hold Olivia’s hand and we reach the line. “And here he comes.” Dominion voice raise to the utmost. And slowly like my vision is set to a slo-mo, a muscular figure filters out of the straw curtain. Wide shoulder length. Straight like it was tested by a ruler during creation, carrying a load of pride, majesty without saying it. Lengthy height and a long face that got opened to a sharp v shaped jaw. The light does not reflect on his face but one can be damn sure that he is a beauty. I swallowed hard. Trying not to be consumed by his tempted body. Which good can be in a man that sleep around girls in a f*****g bar. Definitely none. “Now he’ll choose.” I hate hearing it. But, he we are. I pinned my head to the ground. I can hear his footsteps passing the first girl. I let out a sigh. He’ll choose another one, not just that one. Then the second. The third. The fourth. My heart starts racing and little pebbles of sweat assemble on my forehead. His footsteps draw nearer, making me feel like a hammer keeps driving nail into my heart. Each step feels like a slam of the hammer. He keeps moving down the line. Toward me. I look up and straight at him. Straight at his eyes. And something hold me instantly. Not the charming eyeballs. Not the perfect curve down the chin. Not his perfectly shaped eyebrow. Something more odd. Darker. Something every other girl are not seeing. Like I’m the only one seeing these things. Like nostalgia. My chest tightens and my legs tilt, making me shift back on the line. I pant softly. I look at Olivia and she seems calm. Like she feels nothing different. Aside from the pressure of being picked. I decide to look at him again. Now he is more closer. About five girl before me. And the moment my eyes met his, something grip me. My vision blurs and my body freeze. A slight pain travels through my body and a voice shouted from within. Low pitch but a with a hard force. Like an ant shouting for help in a dessert. The voice grows louder. Louder. I wait and try to listen to what it is saying but I can not. The force grow intense and he move closer. Then I heard it. A groan. Loud. Echoing. “Mate. Mate. Mate!!” Mate? What is that? “Our mate!!” The voice shout. Like a teacher scolding a dummie. “Our mate?” I let out, slowly, with a low voice but enough for him to catch up. “Our mate?” And there he is. Before me. Robert Johnson. Tall. Huge. Alluring. His voice letting the word out firmly even though he is seeking affirmation. I look up at him. And the force within push me. Push me really hard even as I resist. And damn! I land on his chest.
