Chapter 2 Sophia couldn't shake off the feeling that Alexander was involved in the theft. She had seen the look in his eyes, the fleeting moment of guilt. But as she thought about it more, she realized that she didn't want to believe it. Alexander was charming, and she had enjoyed their conversations. She didn't want him to be a thief. As she walked to her next class, Sophia's mind wandered to ways she could help Alexander cover his tracks. She knew it was wrong, but her loyalty to him was growing stronger. Maybe it was because she felt like she understood him, or maybe it was because she wanted to believe that he was innocent. Sophia's best friend, Rachel, noticed her distraction. "Hey, what's wrong?" Rachel asked, concern etched on her face. Sophia hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "Just thinking about the theft," she said finally. "I don't know who could have done it." Rachel nodded sympathetically. "I know, it's crazy. But I'm sure the police will figure it out." Sophia nodded, feeling a pang of guilt. She knew she was considering hiding evidence, and it didn't sit well with her. But her feelings for Alexander were clouding her judgment. As the day went on, Sophia found herself looking for ways to help Alexander. She overheard some students talking about the security cameras, and she realized that the footage might incriminate him. Without thinking, she decided to investigate further. Sophia snuck into the security room during lunch, her heart racing. She knew it was wrong, but she felt like she had to protect Alexander. She searched through the footage, her eyes scanning for any sign of him. The security room was dimly lit, with rows of monitors displaying different angles of the school. Sophia's eyes widened as she saw the feeds from the night of the theft. She fast-forwarded through the videos, her heart pounding in her chest. As she searched, Sophia noticed something strange. There was a gap in the footage, a few minutes where the cameras seemed to malfunction. She felt a shiver run down her spine. Could this be evidence of a cover-up? Sophia's phone buzzed, breaking her concentration. It was a text from an unknown number. "Be careful who you trust." Sophia's eyes widened. Who could be sending her these messages? And what did they know about the theft? As she pondered her next move, Sophia heard footsteps outside the security room. She quickly exited the room, her heart racing. She didn't want to get caught snooping. The Aftermath Sophia made her way back to her locker, her mind reeling with questions. Who was behind the theft? And what did they want? She felt like she was getting in over her head. As she opened her locker, Sophia saw a piece of paper stuck between the doors. It was a note, written in hasty handwriting. "Meet me at the old oak tree at 3 pm. Come alone." Sophia's heart skipped a beat. The note wasn't signed, but she knew it was from Alexander. What did he want? Was he going to confess?
