As their turn came, Scarlet’s heart sank. Her fingers curled instinctively against her stomach, as if to protect the tiny secret growing inside.

Victor stood first, then turned to her, waiting silently.

She took a breath — slow, shaky — and forced herself to stand.

The doctor’s office was nothing like she imagined.

Minimalist and modern, yet warm.

Behind the desk stood a tall, striking woman with olive-toned skin and sleek black hair pulled into a flawless bun. Her white coat fit like it was tailored, and her heels clicked softly against the polished floor as she approached.

Her eyes landed on Victor, and her face lit up instantly.

“Victor! Long time no see,” she said with clear delight, stepping around the desk to greet him like an old friend.

Victor smiled — a real one, not his usual smug grin.

“Tina,” he said warmly, “I missed you too. How have you been?”

Scarlet blinked, suddenly feeling out of place, like an extra in a scene she didn’t belong to.

Then, Victor gestured casually toward her.

“This is Scarlet,” he said. “College student. Slept with her, got her pregnant… Don’t worry, she's legal, I don't do underages”

The cocky smile and words hit the room like a dropped glass — loud, inappropriate, impossible to ignore.

Tina froze, mid-smile, stunned to speak.

Scarlet’s face flushed a deep crimson. She wished the ground would open up and swallow her whole.

There was a beat of absolute silence.

Then Victor added, without a hint of remorse,

“And she's keeping the baby. So, here we are.”

Tina blinked once. Then again.

:"Erm...nice to meet you?." Tina said, still stunned by the news.

Scarlet tried to force a smile but couldn't, why did Victor speak like that?

As Tina started to begin her examination, she asked Scarlet to lie down and put her stethoscope on Scarlet's belly, she talked to Victor. :"You know, it's quite shocking, hearing such news."

Victor smirked :"What's so shocking with two single people making love? I admit, it was kind of my fault, I was too drunk and distracted to make sure i actually used protection..." he turned to Scarlet with a soft smile :"I will try my best to make it up for you." then turned back to Tina :"but what can I say, that's how half of the population of this country were born, isn't it?"

Then Tina started using the ultrasound while replying :"You know what i meant."

"Ah... because i am supposed to be the 'obsessed billionaire with his ex-wife that can't move on?' c'mon Tina, I moved on from Rei three minutes after she said let's break up."

Scarlet was watching the banter between him and the doctor, she was just thankful he didn't mention she was a one night stand...it will make things way worse than they are.

but now, she's almost sure the doctor is assuming that they were on a relationship...

Scarlet’s breath hitched as Tina moved the ultrasound probe gently over her belly. The screen revealed some grey and white pictures, Scarlet couldn't exactly tell where's her fetus

“There it is,” Tina said softly, pointing at the grainy image. “The gestational sac — the very beginning of new life."

Scarlet leaned in closer, eyes wide with a mixture of wonder and apprehension. The tiny black circle on the screen, she couldn't help but wonder, is this the baby? too small..

Victor stood silently beside her, before he says sarcastically :"looks exactly like his father."

Tina chuckled and continued :"It's still too early to detect a heartbeat, we'll do a follow up in a couple of weeks to see how things will go."

:"no heartbeat?" Scarlet muttered and Tina explained :"The heart usually begins to beat between fifth and sixth week, it's hardly four weeks now." she paused then added :"It's not 'alive' yet, still in the safe phase if you decided to go for an abortion."

That was shocking, Scarlet was about to talk but Victor spoke faster :"What kind of advice is this, huh? she chose to keep it already, and don't dare to call MY son dead. If you will add more of this useless comments I'll take her to another, more professional doctor you hear me?"

That outburst left both Tina and Scarlet speechless, Scarlet was stunned, she was sure he didn't want the baby, why is he all riled up when Tina said her words? she didn't know.

She took a deep breath and finally talked :"Victor, this is my choice." her tone was low, trying to organize her thoughts :"Keeping it or not is my choice."

:"I didn't say it's not, but I want you to take it with your freewill, not pressured by anyone...not even the doctor, She is allowed to give such advice when your health is affected, not because her personal opinions" Victor answered calmly, too serious, looking at Tina with accusing eyes.

:"You really think this helps with your situation with Rei? your kids? what would your kids say? she's almost at the age of your daughter!" Tina spoke sharply to Victor who smirked :"They should be proud that their father still got his charm." of course he was provoking her, he even winked before he goes back to his serious persona :"Text me our next appointment later, now we are leaving."

Scarlet got off the seat, smoothing her clothes nervously before following Victor out of the clinic.

In the car, Victor remained silent for a moment, his hands gripping the steering wheel loosely, his jaw clenched but his eyes distant. The engine was still off.

Finally, Scarlet broke the silence. “You were a total jerk in there. Why did you introduce me like that?” She was still irritated about the way he introduced her to Tina

Victor sighed deeply, his shoulders relaxing slightly as he leaned back against the seat. He avoided her gaze for a moment, staring at the dashboard before answering.

“My ex spread a rumor that I’m still obsessed with her... that’s why I haven’t been with anyone since our divorce.” His voice was low, tinged with bitterness.

He glanced sideways at Scarlet, his eyes darkening with frustration. “Of course, that only existed in her stupid empty head. I’m not seeing women because I still love her, I am not seeing women anymore made me hate the entire damn kind...”

The irritation in his tone made Scarlet chuckle softly.

Victor ran a hand through his hair, shaking his head. “Anyway, everyone believed her. I lost some big deals because of the reputation she stuck on me — the unstable ex-husband. Everyone looked at me like I was pathetic...”

He turned his eyes fully to her now, his expression hardening but earnest. “So... you blame a man for trying to clean his name from all that nonsense? Besides, Tina isn’t a stranger — she’s an old friend, your reputation is safe, the worst thing she can do is to call Rei and tell her.”

She sighed :"You used me to clean your name!"

:"And you used me to get your revenge...by the way, you called your ex's name in your sleep that night." He said with a flat tone, not glancing at her as he continued :"don't get me wrong, I don't blame or judge you, but, I'm just saying it's okay if we use each other sometimes as long as no one is hurt, I will never let anyone judge you, don't worry..." he glanced over her embarrassed face for a moment and smirked :"C'mon Scarlet, trust this old billionaire a little... I'm not a reckless teenage boy like those in your college, I can protect you."

She blushed slightly, the sunlight reflects on his face, making him too charming...she couldn't tell, if he is teasing her or being honest, but that smirk made her forgive him immediately.

Later at night, she was in her dorm, in a white tank top, and pink pajamas shorts, her hair is a messy bun, holding a cup of juice in her left hand while her right hand is holding her phone talking with Mia about their assignments, pacing in her messy room, along the thrown books and dishes here and there.

:"Yes, I added more lines in my assignment, they said professor. Dominic loves details so, add details in your paper-"

Suddenly she heard a knock on her door so she ended the call and went to open.

And then, she finds a pale woman, likely at her forties, wearing a pearl white long dress, off shoulders, smokey eyes makeup highlighted perfectly her dark eyes, red lipstick and a designer bag and shoes, looking at her with disdain, full of jewellery, pearl necklace, diamond rings in every finger of her hands.

Scarlet was confused, thought maybe she's a parent of some student and likely got lost. She smiled politely at her :" What can I help you with, ma'am?"

The older lady's face hardened :"Maybe by staying away from my husband, you homewrecker!"

She didn't need the intelligence to figure out, this is Rei, Victor's ex-wife.
