A sense of relief washed over me as I pulled into the guest parking lot. I hadn’t received any calls from Tom or Beau, and after stopping twice for a drink and a bathroom break, it appeared they hadn’t followed me or found me.
I wasn’t sure which of those was true, and to be honest, I didn’t want to find out.
I hurried to the front entrance, my fingers gliding over the buttons beside each resident’s name and apartment number displayed on the panel.
When I found Jake Rose, I pressed the button firmly, holding it down for a moment before letting go and stepping back, holding my breath. I wanted to avoid standing out in the open any more than necessary.
“Petal!? Is that you!?”His deep, excited voice echoed in the sheltered entryway, warming me in a welcome embrace.
