The voice was low, but I knew immediately who it was.
A muffled sound escaped me.
I struggled instinctively, twisting my shoulders and trying to pry his hand away, but his grip tightened. My back collided with his solid chest.
“Relax,” he said, the voice whispered close to my ear.
My heart raised so loudly it drowned out everything else.
The hospital entrance was only a few meters away. I could see people passing through the sliding doors, patients, nurses, visitors carrying plastic bags.
But where we stood, tucked behind a row of tall plants and the corner of the building, the shadows hid us well.
No one looked our way.
I tried again to pull his hand from my mouth.
“Stop fighting,” he muttered under his breath.
