★ Anna
I stared at this dude and I felt like slapping him hard across the face. Did I just thank him for the meal?
"What?" , I voiced, giving him a chance to correct himself because I couldn't have possibly heard right.
"What? Why would I eat at such a fancy costly restaurant. I can't bear sitting across from you with your glasses and scarf. You look like a hitman. So I got a vip spot, ain't that nice of me?" , he smiled with an arched brow at me.
"Did I ask you to bring me here, George?"
"I speak stomach and your stomach did"
"George!!"
"What? You're rich ,you can afford it. Don't act like you didn't enjoy the meal", he scoffed and sat back into his chair.
I really can't believe this dude .
"I didn't come with my card"
"Make a transfer"
"What?", I stared at him unbelievably.
"What? Make a transfer. Else we can possibly wash the dishes and toilets for our pay", he spoke so relaxed with a smile.
I really needed to get away from him. Gina would surely get a beating for sending this fool to come get me.
I opened my purse, got out my card and threw it at him. He pressed a little button that was beneath the table which I hadn't noticed yet and the waitress who had served us rushed in. She took my card and swiped it before thanking us.
George stood, "you coming?"
I could snap his neck right now, but I followed him. I need someone to take me home. I could snap his neck right after.
"I really enjoyed the meal", he smiled when we sat in the car before zooming off. He drove straight and stopped in front of a bakery.
"What else are you going to make me pay for?", I rolled my eyes refusing to step out of the car.
"I wonder why the rich are the stingiest", he scoffed and walked round to open my door.
"You should say hi to mother before we head home", he said in a really calm tone that didnt annoy me for the first time today.
And truly, in anger I had forgotten their mom ran a bakery. Their dad was dead and she did well to take care of them without making any efforts to remarry.
I stepped out and he closed the door behind me, offering his hand that got me cringing at him.
He laughed but said to me, "watch your step".
We walked in and the workers greeted George warmly. Only a girl muttered, "is that Anna?"
It was whisper to her colleague, but I heard it.
"Here in Oakdale? Can't be", her colleague replied and the brunette seemed to want to argue but after a little thought she shrugged and looked away.
"Let's go", George said to me after grabbing two cup cakes and handing one over to me.
"I'm on a diet"
"I could smear it on your face..", he gave a smug smile and I hastily grabbed the cup cake from him. Knowing who George was, he really would do that. I took a bite. It was really tasty.
We got to an office and George didn't knock. He simply opened it, "mom?" He walked in.
"Rude", I scoffed but trailed after him either ways.
"Mom?", he called and I wondered if he was blind to see she wasnt in her office.
Instead, he strode forward and grabbed a doorknob, twisting it open. I nearly screamed at him thinking it was her toilet and he was stupid to barge in but the door opened to a really beautifully designed kitchen, and there she was, busy with what she loved doing the most.
She had headphones over her ears and with her attitude and stature, no one would believe she was 46.
George tiptoed behind her and I rolled my eyes at his childish attitude, only for the voice in my head to come alive. "Are you jealous you don't do that with your mom?"
"Jealous? Tsk!", I shut it off but I had said that aloud and George turned to me. "Shushh!".
I rolled my eyes and watched him tickle his mom. In return, the woman jumped in fear, leaving a slap mark of flour on his face.
I bursted out laughing.
"George!!", the older woman cried holding her chest.
I couldn't help myself. I laughed really hard. I knew I'd have a blast here in Oakdale.
She took off her head phone and washed off her hands, while George walked to the sink to wash his face.
"Anna?"
"Mom", I walked up to her amidst laughter.
"Oh my God. Anna", she hugged me tightly and I felt her warmness. My own birth mom had last hugged me when I returned from Oakdale after my aunt's death. I didn't want to remember the ugly incident.
We untangled and she ran her hand into my hair with a smile . "You've grown so big and beautiful".
"You too mom. You're still so young as ever", I replied with a wide smile and George walked back to us.
"Don't scare me like that again. I've said that countlessly", she held her chest.
"I deserve the biggest share of tonight's dinner for this slap", he grumbled like a child.
She ignored him and turned to me, "how are your parents?", she asked.
"They're good. They send their greetings", I lied.
"You just came into town?"
"Well some minutes ago", I replied and she smiled.
"I'll finally have a full house", we all chuckled and she turned back to George. "Take her home. She needs all the rest she can. I'm still busy here but i'll be home early today".
We hugged goodbye and finally George drove me home.
I inhaled the fresh air of Oakdale as I alighted the car.
"The least you can do is bring in my stuffs", I rolled my eyes at him and walked to the door, where I waited since it was locked.
He smiled and got my suitcase out of his trunk before wheeling it towards me and opening the door. I rushed in, finally happy to be away from all toxic people back home.
I followed him up the stairs to Gina's room and I didn't hesitate to fall on the bed. It was welcoming just as I expected.
"Welcome home", he finally said.
"Took you an hour to say that", I rolled my eyes and sat up on the bed.
He laughed and turned to leave, "if you need anything, my room's on the left, the very first door"
"Why would I need your help?", I scoffed and he walked back to me while I held my breathe.
He smiled and crouched down, slowing taking off my sneakers.
"Stuffs like this. Or unzipping your gown", he stared deeply into my eyes and I into his too. I was lost but thanks to Gina whose voice reached us from down the stairs. I snapped back.
"Anna?!!!!", she yelled.
George chuckled and left the room.
The first to run in was little princess. "Aunt Anna!!!', she squealed and jumped on me.
Gina walked in next.
"Anna!!!", she called and i smiled. I had missed them so much but subconsciously, my eyes trailed towards the door, lingering there like I could see George's figure, my mind didn't fail in replaying the look in his eyes.
"What was that?" - I asked myself.
