*Indigo POV*
“Ok Indi, your next task is to run this obstacle course 2 times, then we will begin a new style of fighting techniques.” I inwardly rolled my eyes. I have been training to fight and defend myself since I was 5 years old. I have learned Kickboxing, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, and Judo. What other fighting style is there to learn? I just wish I could go shopping, watch a movie, talk about boys like my other friends. “Yes sir.” I say to my dad. My dad is Vance Mason, he is the Head Warrior in our pack, Blue Diamond Pack. He is also best friends with the Alpha Jai. I call him Uncle Jai. And Luna Jennifer, you got it she is Aunt Jenny to me. Their son, Kayden, is a royal pain in my ass. Very spoiled and gets his way just because he is the Alpha’s son and heir to the pack. I swear, he believes the world revolves around him. I much rather train and learn different fight styles, then spend 5 minutes with Kayden.
”Indi! Focus on what you are doing or you will be doing this course 3 times!!!” Dad yells from across the field. Can somebody save me already? “My bad, my thoughts are elsewhere. I just wish I could hang out with my friends sometimes.” I say to my dad. “I know honey, but I have been instructed to teach you all that I know and some new fighting techniques. One day, you will be the Head Warrior of this pack. I just want you to be prepared. Your brother is not old enough, he is only 13. You my dear are 17 and in a couple of months you will be 18,” Dad says as we wrap up training. “What if I do not want to be Head Warrior, would you be mad?” “No, not at all, I would just have to wait another 5 years for your brother. Can you imagine Ice being the Head Warrior?” “Actually I could, he has had the some of the same training as me, plus, I believe he likes it more,” I expressed to my father. “I will think about it. I have been thinking about sending him to Warrior Training at the palace, but you know how your mother is.” “That is what I do not understand, I started training at age 5, Ice started his training 3 years ago. Why did I start at a young age and not him?” “I believe it’s time that your mother and I have this chat with you. You will understand more after we have this discussion. But now, it is time that you get ready for school. Graduation is coming up.” “And so is the mating ball!” I said excitedly. “Don’t remind me, I am not ready for you to have a mate yet,” Dad said. Are all dads like this? I guess they are if they have daughters. I will ask Amy, Michelle, and Shannon when I get to school.
”Hurry up before we are late for school!” Shannon yells from her car. “How are you always running late for school when you’ve been up since 5 am” I don’t understand it.” “You know my dad and I have to train for an hour and half in the morning and 2 hours after school.” I tell Shannon getting in the car. “Yeah, that’s right. You been doing that since Freshman year.” “Yeah and you left me hanging after our first year, you were supposed to train with me.” “Hey, I can’t keep up with the morning training. I join you after school, you know that. A girl need her beauty sleep.” Shannon states as we drive to school. “Oh so you are saying that I am ugly?” I tease Shannon, she hate it when I tease her. “Oh Indi, you know I don’t think you are ugly. You just have unique eyes thats all. I wouldn’t think twice about it if your eyes were on a white girl, but we are black. What black person has eyes like yours?” “Um besides my mom, I guess just us.” I shrugged my shoulders and gather my bookbag and head towards the school. “How is Ms. Vi doing, I haven’t seen her in awhile?” “Mom is mom. If she is not working on healing potions, she reading her grimoire from Gram or running to keep Bella active.” Bella is mom’s wolf. With her being half witch, she spends time reading and learning her magic and for exercise, she will go for runs in wolf form. There was some drama between her home pack and the surrounding packs in her area before she met dad at a mating ball. After they were mated, they came here and drama followed them. That’s another story for another time.
First period is always a drag for me because I already know Werewolf History. But I guess it doesn’t hurt to have a refresher. I walk into class and sit in my normal seat, which is the middle. That way I am not too close to the front and perceived to be a nerd and not too close to the back and perceived to be lazy. But somehow, I am always called on by the teacher. I keep my head down, pretending that I am taking notes just so I can look productive. This look gets noticed by the popular students and oftentimes, teasing comes along with it. Don’t get me wrong, I always have a snappy clap back. It just my clap backs always come with someone trying to fight me. “Hey guys, look, it's the purple eyed freak who thinks she’s better than everyone.” Miranda says as she walks into the classroom. The teacher is not here yet so she thinks she can get away with that certain remark. Not today Satan, “Hey guys look, 75% percent just walked in. Isn't it hard to be a basic b***h?” I retorted. As soon as I finished my sentence, Mr. Jones walked in. Just my luck and of course, he didn’t hear what Miranda said. “Indigo, I expected more of your choice of words. Now apologize to Miranda.” Mr. Jones said to me. “I will not apologize for my choice of words to her. I will apologize for disrupting the class before it even began.” “An apology is needed and an apology is what I will get, if not you can sit in detention,” Mr. Jones states. “I gave my apology to the class, if that is not good enough for you, I will take my leave.” I gathered my books and left the classroom. Walking down the hall, heading toward the detention class for first period, I ran into the last person I wanted to see…Kayden.
”Why are you heading towards the detention class? Did you get into it with my girlfriend again? You will never learn, just a lame excuse of a pack member.” Kayden taunts me as I pass by him. “This is coming from the ‘Alpha heir’ who can’t beat a girl in sparring. If I were you, I would mind the business that pays me.” I say while walking into detention class. “Indi, you are here every other day. When are you going to keep that mouth on a leash?” Ms. Wright says to me while laughing. “If people leave me alone, I wouldn’t be here.” “Well at least its only the first period. You seem to manage through-out the rest of the day.” “That’s because I have advanced classes. The basic students have basic classes.” I shrugged. “Indi, how do you expect to pass Werewolf History if you are not in the class?” “Ms. Wright, look up my scores in Werewolf History. It’s an elective class that I needed to participate in at graduation.” Ms. Wright goes to her computer and look at my scores in amazement. She is perplexed on how I can sit on a 98% in Werewolf History when I am always sent to detention. That’s not all that she sees. She noticed that I have Trigonometry, Chemistry, Psychology, Physiology, along with gym. In each class I have 95% or higher. I was set to graduate last year but my parents believe completing school at age 16 would bring unwanted attention, so this year will be my final year. At least I get to graduate with my friends. “This is amazing Indi, I didn’t know that you were this advance. I always knew you were smart, I just didn’t know you were related to Albert Einstein.” I just love Ms. Wright, she is sweet and funny. We shared a laugh and I helped her grade some papers until the end of first period.
The rest of my classes were uneventful, but when it was time for lunch, drama started again. Shannon and Michelle have the same lunch time 11:30-12:30. Me and Amy have the latest lunch 12:45-1:45p. Unfortunately, this is the same lunchtime as Kayden, Miranda and the rest of the buffoons. Amy and I were standing in line waiting to get our food, minding our own business, talking about the upcoming mating ball. Then Miranda walks up and sneers, “If you keep choosing to go to detention, You will be even lower than me since you claim that I am 75%.” “Miranda, if you had any wits about yourself, you would realize that you called yourself low.” I said while shaking my head. “That’s your problem, you think you are better than everyone. You are nobody, you don’t even have a wolf. You are no better than a human,” Miranda shouts out throughout the cafeteria. I just look at her and let her rant and make a fool out of herself. “Why do you think she doesn’t have a wolf? She smells like a wolf.” Someone says in the lunchroom. “Indigo did not shift when we were 16. She is wolf-less. Why do you think she is doing all of this extra training? She is trying to get her wolf to emerge.” The lunchroom burst out in laughter at Miranda’s words. Or moreso, laughing at me.
