“I-I thought I saw someone and was trying to ask for directions,” I lied.
Jacob remained staring at me while I forced a smile, nodding, hoping it would somewhat convince him.“I got lured by the rain and decided to get myself wet,” I added, chuckling. “But I got carried away and walked a little further.”
