CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE
By 2:40 that morning, Mackenzie had taken part in moving the body of Wanda Young and corroborating with officers on the scene. She requested that the official autopsy report be emailed to her, but it was clear that Fredericks’s assessment of the cause of death had been correct: a deep cut to the stomach which had pierced the intestines and two heavy blows to the head, one of which had exposed a portion of skull.
When she arrived back at the motel, she knew she should be tired but she was actually quite invigorated. She did, however, make her way into the motel’s office and politely requested that the clerk brew a pot of coffee for her since there were no individual mini pots in the rooms.
