Testing

1045 Words
An afternoon full of tests, x-rays, CT scans, ultra sounds and blood work, throat swab, looked in my ears and eyes, reflexes and not sure if I fell asleep and missed some out of being tired and well lets face it, used to speed and finding myself board.  Speech still isn't back fully so they have me point to words, number and pictures on a board to help move things along, unlike my nurse earlier today the area with the machines is busy and they can't take to much time, to many tests for them to do all day. I wasn't able to have the soup for lunch, these tests needed to be done first, sure hope results show time to eat, as I notice my hunger grow, for now they just stick with the feeding tube. I think it was a hour or two of all these tests, could have been three, finally back in my room, thankful my boss made sure it was private,  it really has been awesome driving for him, he takes good care of us all. I notice the radio on, softly at first then a little louder, I feel out of it, some of the tests done caused some pain, before a porter wheeled me back to my room I was given my pain meds, I noticed I drift in and out after those. "Sorry, no results yet, don't you worry none, I am advocating for you to have food, so in the mean time, sponge bath time, I'll turn the music up a bit more if you like" "yes, please" "wow less shaky, voice is getting stronger, keep up the good work Mr. Moose." "Just, Moose please" I mange to turn my head and look at her  "Florence? right" I see her smile, so far my sight seems to stay a blur. I can make out images, but I can't tell the color of her eyes or lipstick. "As you wish Moose" I mange to say "thank you" before drifting off from how nice and warm the water felt on my left arm, I am looking forward to when I can have a real bath or swim, but there has been a enjoyable touch factor to these sponge baths, I will miss. Not sure how long I was out, I wake to see my dad talking to the doctor, they both looked into the room, and both walk in when they noticed I woke up. "How you feeling son?" dad seemed happy to ask, "ok" I reply still half asleep "alive" also come out of my mouth, yup alive but barely living. "Your dad says you prefer Moose, can I call you that" the doc asks, "yes" I mange to reply. "Alright Moose, your healing nicely considering the extent of your injuries, another 3 weeks and your legs will be x-rayed again, both of them broke in two places but we were able to cast them with out pins, but we did need to pin your broken ribs, you had eternal bleeding that emergency surgery successful stopped, we came to close to losing you a few times, my team and I had our race and thankfully we won and your here, the swelling on your brain went down, so we are still keeping a eye out on the head trauma, so when you can speak a bit better we need to talk about how your eye sight is, we did see a small scratch on your left iris but not sure how it looks to you. Your collar bone healing nicely and with more water and spray your throat should be fine, it was just dry from the oxygen mask, so tomorrow morning we will start you on a breakfast shake and work our why to over foods as your jaw is still healing from it being broken, so it will be soft stuff first." Wow I think to myself, almost completely broken. " Do you or your dad have any questions?" he turns to mainly dad as he knows my voice isn't fully back, but now that he asks I find myself blurt out "TV?" both my dad and him laugh and I don't know why that would be funny. "yes we can arrange that, any other questions?" I was thinking but between tired and the speech issue, how would I ask it, need to try any way, "why so tired?"  ok so it came out short and sweet. "Your body is working hard at healing and rest can help ease pain, the fact you have many breaks and did have a blood transfusion to restore iron, mixed with the pain meds, your body is using more energy then you are getting and with the blood work we did we will increase vitamins, in fact I am noting in your chart to see if we can mange to get you outside for some sun this week. I know you like fast Moose, but this is slow and boring and then more work starts with physio it is a long road back." "ok" slow, going no where for now, I look over to dad " I know son, your bored I will see what I can bring in tomorrow, but I have to go home, visiting hours are over and you do need rest, Love you." as he kisses me on the forehead like when I was little, my eyes did still feel very heavy, both dad and the doc left, dad had turned out the light, I noticed the radio still on low, some sweet tones and it wasn't long until once again I was asleep, dreaming of getting back to my life, my normal and the thoughts that yes something was missing that I did regret not having a love like mom and dad's and how happy they were. This time I will allow myself to go out and have fun, to not just work, but play outside of the racing world, just incase I can't go back racing I do need to think of something, being here like this I am the type of person that needs to do something with my hands, fix cars, bikes, time to see if dreaming can help steer me in the direction of a back up plan, but first plan is work hard and get back to racing.
