Chapter 6: Affinity...

1588 Words
---"I have to look after this kid for a whole month, the principal sure isn't going easy on me..." thinks Kein while dragging the mummified Yoso through the corridors of the academy.  "Whoa! Is this the place I'll live in?!" shouts Yoso so loud that probably, the entire city heard him.  Kein brought Yoso where Mr Laure told him. It's a pretty big house equipped with everything someone would want from a house.  "He told me that this would be a normal place, 'like every other house', but then... Why does it have a jacuzzi in the living room!?" thinks Kein with tears in his eyes "Good! And now, the real torture begins! Get ready kid, because I am going to teach you everything you should know about the life force and the catalysts!" says Kein with an enthusiastic tone  After one hour, Kein came to realize something that he wasn't told beforehand... "This kid... Isn't an i***t at all! I didn't even have to explain anything to him. He already knew most of the things!" thinks Kein, but then his thoughts are interrupted by Yoso that asks him, "Umm, excuse me Kein, but would you mind teaching me about this country? I already learned all the stuff about life force back then in Authorania, but I don't know anything about Dinsfurd or the other kingdoms." "Uh, yeah, sure... What would you like to know?" "Everything! History, geography, traditions, and all the things that I should normally know!" "Why do I feel like this is going to take the whole night?" thinks Kein with a forced grin on his face  ---And in the end, it was just as Kein thought. The sun raised and Yoso still wanted to hear more, while Kein was lying on the floor, with his soul slowly but surely trying to pass on the other side from exhaustion... "Umm, Kein? Are you still alive?" However, the only answer Yoso got on this question was a long snore from Kein. "Maybe I should let him rest a bit after all, even though I wanted to know more..." says Yoso with a bright smile on his face  After a few more hours, Kein finally manages to wake up on the couch from Yoso's house. "Wh-where am I?" "My house. Did you forget already? Now, let's continue with my lessons! I want to know more!" "What?! What hour is it?" "Let's see... It's just 01:00 PM! You have a lot of time to teach me!" "O-one PM?! Does that mean the school is over?!" "Probably. Why are you so worried?" "You don't understand! Some big guy has some big expectations from me! He might come any minute from now!" says Kein frowning "Big guy? What do you mean?" says Yoso with a questioned expression, then he follows up with: "By the way! Mister Laure came to visit us!" exclaims Yoso  "Wait... you mean?" slowly mutters Kein with a scared look on his face, just before being interrupted by a shout "Shimada Kein! I entrusted you with this simple task, and you fell asleep and also skipped classes!" shouts Laure "I am sorry! But this is all his fault! He knows everything about life force and kept me awake all night to teach him about Dinsfurd!" "Hmm? Is this true, Yoso?" asks Laure while looking at the smiling boy "Yes! Kein taught me about Dinsfurd all night and fell asleep! And he didn't even bother to continue with those lessons after he woke up!" "Now I see how it is..." says Laure "Yoso, you won't take the same final exam as the students of our academy. I discussed with the representative of the Melyndor Academy about you and the rescue mission. After you feel better, you will take an exam for becoming a knight and then you are going to go to Melyndor for some special training a few years. But we and Melyndor have a contract so we will contact you every day. And also... From now on, you will be known as Yoso Edroch." "Wait! Do you mean... You adopted him?!" shouts Kein "Yes, it was the best option." "Umm, I am sorry if I interrupt you... but I am feeling good now, so I think I can take the exam now," says Yoso "What?! What do you mean you feel better?! Your arm was broken!"  Yoso starts then moving his "broken" arm around like it was nothing. In Authorania, people are trained to endure pain and most of them are made experiments. It is pretty rare, but there are people that got the ability to heal way faster than regular beings. But even with that ability that not everyone has, it is pretty rare to see a broken limb fully healed in two days. "It looks healed... I don't even know what to say about this," says Laure "So you want to take the exam now? Why don't you let him do it, principal?" asks Kein "Do you want to, Yoso? "Yes! I do!" "Fine then, let's go to the training grounds." "Wait! Training grounds? Won't he take a normal exam in an examination area?" asks Kein "No... Bring him there in one hour, Shimada." "Yes sir, as you wish."  After one hour, the two boys arrive at the training grounds. The principal was already waiting here with a few more examinators. "You can go now, Shimada." but again, Kein was already leaving before Laure even told him to, "Aham, I will explain the rules now. There is nothing too complicated. You are going to fight against me with your new catalyst. Mister Kite, please bring it there!"  One of the examinations comes towards Yoso while carrying a bow. As Yoso opens the box, his expression changes. He draws out a pretty thin and long sword, with a black line on the edge. "So cool! Is this mine?!" asks Yoso with an enthusiastic tone "Yes. Now... You are going to use it in your fight against me. Fight me like your life is in danger. You won't be able to hurt me at your actual level, but I just need to see how good your skills are at the moment. Use the terrain and what you've learned and try to defeat me!"     Without leaving them much time to think, one of the examinations announces the start of the exam, "Now, let the fight between mister Laure Edroch and Yoso Edroch begin!"   After hearing those words, Yoso charged straight to Laure, but Laure didn't even take a step. "His speed is pretty good but he won't be able to hurt me if he comes forward without a plan," thinks Laure "I just have to show what I've got... I can see mister Laure is really strong, maybe as strong as Mister Braum. But I have to do everything I can and use what I've learned!" thinks Yoso   ---After thinking this, Yoso's sword started glowing as he was approaching, his eyes and hair turned orange and as well the black line on the sword. His catalyst then started emitting a blazing aura, hot enough to melt iron. "Here I come, mister Laure!"  Then Yoso leaps with his sword forward, going towards Laure, but his sword is stopped with only one hand. "I have to admit that you are emanating some strong heat. But if you use fire... It's clear that you can't damage rock!" says Laure  Then after seeing that Laure's hand turned to stone, Yoso realized that Laure's affinity is the rock element. The fire won't make him budge. Then after seeing that he can't beat him this way, he steps back quickly and starts thinking while running around Laure. "Rock element beats fire... But what can I do then? If he knew that he has that big of an advantage, why did he want to fight me? I have to think... My true affinity can't be fire... It's that weird rainbow that I generated back then. What can I do to beat rock?"  Then Yoso starts to concentrate his power. He didn't even realize that his hair and eyes changed their colours once again. The line on his sword turned ocean blue and he started feeling like he could actually defeat the opponent ahead of him now. He started running in circles around Laure, waiting for the best moment to attack. "I need to be faster... As fast as lightning if possible!"  His hair and eyes turned yellow and his speed wasn't something that you could normally see with the naked eye. "So this is what they told me about... This kid can really do so much." thinks Laure Yoso launches a full-speed attack against Laure and then just before swinging his sword against him, his hair and eyes turned blue once again. His sword looks like it's enveloped in ocean waves, and the power he emanates is incredibly big.  But something isn't just right... And Laure found out already. As the sword falls from Yoso's hands, he collapses. The sword falls on Laure's stone arm, leaving a huge scratch on it, but the result is already obvious. "The winner is Laure Edroch." "With just the power that was left in the sword, he managed to give me this scratch... Imagine if he actually attacked me with full force now. Kids these days... You can't underestimate them anymore. Those constant affinity changes sure exhausted him, but his power might be exactly what his world needed..." thinks Laure while picking the collapsed Yoso from the ground
