Chapter 2

Celia As soon as Celia turned the corner, she stopped and looked inside the wallet. There were a few large bills that she plucked out and shoved in her pocket as she went to throw the wallet in a nearby dumpster. “Well, well. What do we have here?” A strange voice sang behind her. Celia froze and then turned around to see a police officer standing with his hands on his hips. She looked at the wallet in her hand and back up at him with a smile. “Look what I found. Your timing is perfect. I was just about to go look for the owner.” “Sure you were.” He said slowly coming at her. She acted like she was going to bolt and he froze. “You know what, why don’t you find him.” She said quickly and threw the wallet at him while she bolted the other way. Not even ten seconds and she was on the ground, being handcuffed by his partner. “Wow, I am really off my game.” She muttered to herself. The officers each took an arm and lifted her up. “And look at that,” The partner had said as he pulled a blade that was peeking out from behind her shirt. “Surprise! A weapon. I wonder what other surprises you’ve got on you?” “Pretty sure you’re going to have to wait for a female officer to find out.” Celia said with a smug smile. As the one officer reached for the speaker on his shoulder, two men came running around the corner. “Officers!” The dark haired man spoke in a deep loud voice that made everyone pay attention. “A word.” He spoke straightening himself. The blond-haired man came up to Celia as if to relieve the officers and they walked away from her to speak to the other man. Celia’s brow furrowed as she took in the strange behavior. It was like she was getting a pass. Two men had now become just one and she contemplated how she was going to get away while the other three were distracted. “I wouldn’t attempt it.” The blonde man had said as though he was reading her thoughts and she looked at him sideways. “The trying to get away, I mean.” His hand slid to her wrists cuffed behind her and she tensed. “He always gets his way.” He gave a slight nod to the black haired man. “And cops or not, this is his territory.” He said offhandedly. “Territory?” Celia questioned as she looked back at him. His eyes danced as the sky blue in his eyes darkened and swirled. She closed her eyes for a moment as she turned away. “You’re f*****g wolves.” Celia opened her eyes wide, looking at the ground. She had no idea how she was going to get out of this one. She was still weak from the last fight and taking on an Alpha while handcuffed was not an option at the moment. “Intriguing.” The blonde sang with a sly smirk. “I’m Quinn. That’s Blaise. Or Beta and Alpha, of the Shadow Pack.” He gestured formally. She had heard the name before. The Shadow Pack were trained like ninjas. They moved about in the shadows, at least long ago when most of the packs were at war. The council spoke highly of them, but even they were cautious and treaded carefully when dealing with them. And here she was, trying to stay away from all werewolves, when her carelessness got her caught by two of the most dangerous. “And you are?” Quinn questioned, but Celia looked back up at him with disdain. “Not interested.” As she looked away the three men walked back to them. One of the officers came behind her and began unlocking the cuffs while the other one spoke. “Looks like you get a pass today, Miss. At least from us. But it does look like Mr. Hanlan has a need for you. You keep out of trouble now.” “Don’t worry. I’ll keep her out of trouble.” Blaise was saying to the officer without taking his eyes off of her. His deep voice stern and she felt like she would be listening to a lecture about stealing for the rest of the day. Celia rolled her eyes and the officers turned to leave. “Hey,” She called out as she took a step forward, but was stopped shortly by Quinn’s hand. “My blade?” She said expectantly and the one officer walked back to hand it to her, but Blaise snatched it. “You can have this back later.” He said pointedly. The officers left and the two men stood much too close for her liking. There eyes were clouded and Celia looked between the two of them a few times then sighed heavily. “It’s rude to mindlink for so long. Can I go now?” She spoke irritated. Blaise narrowed his eyes at her. “My wallet is empty.” “That’s how I found it.” She explained and he took another step closer. Standing inches away and looking down at her, his eyes darkened and swirled as they bore into her. “Lying is not an option allotted to you.” He breathed out. The scent of Sandalwood and musk filling her lungs. Celia flared her nosrils and breathed in defiantly. She reached into her pocket to pull out the money, but was stopped again by Quinn’s hand. She turned to him with narrowed eyes and gritted her teeth. “He has my weapon.” Quinn released her hand and she held the cash out to Blaise. “There you have your wallet. And your money.” She spat out as she shoved the money in his hand. “Keep my blade if you wish. I’ll find another.” Celia tried to step around him, but Blaise stood firm as Quinn held her upper arm tight. “You have no use for me.” She spoke carefully, her body tense. Blaise closed the distance between them and spoke softly in her ear. “I prevented your arrest. I did not prevent your punishment.” He pulled away and looked down at her. A chill ran through Celia at the multitude of insinuations he just made and, without another word, he began walking back down the way he came; Quinn pulling her along as he followed.
