CHAPTER 4 Jealousy is a dangerous game — especially when it wears a suit and holds your future. Hazel — POV I stepped into the office… and froze. The man sitting behind the massive glass desk wasn’t a stranger. Alexander Wilson. The same man who had glared at me in the restaurant just weeks ago. Now… he was my boss. Dressed entirely in black, sleeves rolled up, eyes cold like a winter storm. The room seemed to chill with his presence. I could barely breathe. My heart thudded painfully in my chest. “You’re late,” he said, voice sharp as a blade. “I’m sorry, sir,” I whispered, swallowing hard. “Come closer.” I forced my legs to move, one shaky step at a time. He stood. Tall. Dangerous. Powerful. His gaze swept over me… lingering far too long. “From clumsy waitress… to my personal assistant?” he scoffed, a cruel smile curling his lips. My cheeks burned. My dignity felt smaller than ever. “This is going to be... interesting,” he muttered, taking a seat again. --- Later that morning… He didn’t ease up. “Go get me my coffee,” he ordered. I returned minutes later, clutching the cup like it was fragile glass. “We have a meeting at 11:00,” I informed him softly. He didn’t even look up—just nodded and sipped his coffee with maddening calm. --- 11:00 AM I waited outside his office. Moments later, he stepped out, towering beside me. We walked side by side to the conference room. The second we entered, all eyes shifted—on me. My pulse quickened. A tall man with a wolfish grin approached, confidence dripping from every step. “Well, well… Alex… and who’s this angel beside you?” Before I could react, he reached out—aiming for my waist. I panicked. But faster than anyone could blink, Alexander’s arm shot out, yanking me firmly to his side. “Let’s start the meeting,” he snapped coldly, shooting the man a glare that could kill. Was he… protecting me? Or was that… jealousy? --- Alexander — POV The meeting ended. I stalked back to my office. She followed—quiet, eyes wide. At the door, I spun around sharply. “You’re my PA. Why the hell were you flirting with my business partner?” I hissed. Her eyes widened. “I wasn’t! He—” “And who wears clothes like that to work—without a jacket?” I knew I sounded cruel, but I couldn’t stop. The thought of that man touching her… enraged me. My voice thundered across the room. I slammed the door behind us. Raymond was already inside, leaning casually against my desk. “She’s dressed like every other woman here,” he said coolly. “Why do you care?” “I don’t,” I snapped. He smirked. “Then why are you acting like a jealous boyfriend?” I glared at him, grabbing my car keys, and stormed toward the door—only to stop short. She was standing there. “I… came to tell you… I’m going home for the day,” Hazel said softly, eyes downcast. Regret hit me like a truck. I hadn’t meant to shatter her. “Oh… okay. Sure,” I mumbled. “Wait. I’ll take you home,” Raymond said suddenly, brushing past me and taking her hand. I stood there, fists clenched so hard my knuckles turned white. “I hate this best friend of mine,” I muttered under my breath.
