Pure unadulterated fear was what Pearl felt as the guard grabbed hold of the blanket she was under and began to pull it off her.
In the second it took for her to be revealed her body went through a dizzying range of reactions. First, there was a wave of freezing coldness like she had been thrust into an ice bath which was quickly followed by sweat bubbling on her skin as her body grew warm, then finally, the chill that came from the ocean air as she was fully exposed.
