Kael has been hiding something from me. And every time I asked about my past… He changed the subject. I couldn’t stop thinking about the woman who had arrived at the palace. “I hope you haven’t forgotten that you promised to marry me.” Her words echoed in my mind long after I returned to my room. Who was she? And why hadn’t Kael denied it? I paced back and forth across the room, trying to convince myself that it didn’t matter. It shouldn’t matter. Kael wasn’t mine. I barely trusted him. So why did the thought of another woman beside him make my chest ache? A knock interrupted my thoughts. It was Mira, the kind maid who had cared for me since I arrived. “Lady Aria,” she said with a gentle smile. “His Majesty won’t be joining you for dinner tonight.” I frowned. “Is he busy?”
