The enemy has been eating at our table. The morning after Kael’s victory should have been filled with celebration. Instead, the palace was drowning in suspicion. No one laughed. No one lingered in the corridors to gossip. Every servant lowered their voice when someone walked past, and every guard kept a hand close to the hilt of his sword. The enemy hadn’t broken through Moonspire’s walls. But somehow… They already knew too much. I found Kael in the war room before sunrise. A large map covered the table, its edges held down by silver daggers. Tiny carved wolves marked Moonspire’s armies, while black stones represented the enemy. Kael hadn’t changed out of his armor. Dark circles shadowed his golden eyes. “You didn’t sleep,” I said softly. He looked up and gave me a tired smil
