I broke it before the day was over.
The morning after the royal court meeting, I was enjoying breakfast when Kael walked into the dining room.
He looked tired.
There were dark circles beneath his eyes.
“You didn’t sleep,” I said.
He picked up a cup of coffee.
“I had work.”
“You say that every time.”
“Because it’s usually true.”
I folded my arms.
“You can’t keep working all night.”
He raised an eyebrow.
“Are you worried about me?”
“No.”
“You hesitated.”
“I was choosing the right word.”
“And?”
“Irritated.”
A smile tugged at his lips.
“I’ll take it.”
After breakfast, Kael led me through the palace gardens.
