"I'm just joking," Caden laughed, and Emily frowned.
"That was not a funny joke, Caden," she retorted.
"I wasn't joking when I said I wanted you, Emily," Caden said and pressed her lips together.
"I don't like whatever game you're playing," Emily replied. "You didn't even answer my question," she added.
Caden sighed. "Beatrice isn't my real mother, my real mother, Caroline died years ago," he started, and Emily blinked in surprise.
She didn't know that piece of information.
There was no news about Anthony's wife dying and him remarrying.
"He made sure everything was kept under wraps, my mother was from a wealthy household while my dad wasn't, she fell in love with him and they got married, 10years later she died" Caden informed.
Emily's mouth fell open. "Really? I didn't know that," she replied.
"No one knows, everyone who does is dead, he cheated on her and beat her almost every day till she died, a year later he married Beatrice," Caden continued. "I felt sorry for Beatrice. She married a monster," Caden added.
"I knew your father wasn't treating her well, but I didn't know he was an abuser." Emily bit her lips.
"Was? He still is, " Caden replied coldly. "And he wants to replace me as the COO," Caden concluded.
"What?" Emily asked in surprise. "Can he do that?" Emily asked again.
"Yes, he can. He is the CEO," Caden answered.
"What would you do then?" Emily asked.
"I don't know," Caden replied truthfully.
Emily's eyes were filled with unspoken pity for Caden. She didn't know what to tell him or how to make him feel better.
She moved closer to him and pulled him into a hug.
Caden's eyes widened in shock. Surely, he didn't expect her to hug him. "Don't worry, everything will work out fine," she tapped his back.
Caden hugged her back, pressing her body into his, Emily wanted to pull away, but Caden didn't let her. "Let's stay like this for a while, please," he said, almost in a whisper, and Emily nodded softly.

{MADISON'S APARTMENT}
Madison tried to nurse the bruise on her cheek, but the one on her elbow wasn't letting her.
She kept on wincing as she tried to clean the bruise, a first aid kit in front of her.
It's been a really long time. Ambrose hurt her. She had always been able to keep him at bay with money.
But she doesn't have any more money to give to him.
She looked at the space her television used to be, and she sighed. He took it since she won't give him any money after he was done brûising her.
Madison heard a knock on her door, and she flinched.
It better not be Ambrose.
Is he back because the money he got from the TV wasn't enough?
Madison bit her lips hard. She tried her best not to panic or flinch at any little thing, but Ambrose had to resurface all her fears.
The knock came again, and she really couldn't help but flinch again.
She finally stood up from the couch and walked towards the door, not without wincing a few times because of the pain from her wounds.
She opened the door and was surprised to see Nathan standing in front of her.
Did he find out she brought Ava back with her? But Ava promised not to let Nathan know.
"Nathan?" She called in surprised.
Nathan had a huge frown on his face as he stared at Madison.
His eyes ran through her body, the bruises that coated her arms and face.
Madison soon realized he was staring at her wounds, and she smiled awkwardly. "I fell," she lied.
"Unless you fell a million times in one day, I'm not believing that lie, he hits you?" Nathan said as he walked past Madison and went into her apartment.
"I didn't say you can come in," Madison fired as she turned towards him.
"Answer my question, Madison," Nathan said instead, completely ignoring her remark.
"I told you, I fell," she replied adamantly.
Nathan's face morphed into an angry frown. "Don't give me that shît" Nathan growled.
Madison bit her lips hard. "So what if he hits me? What's that got to do with you? Why are you here?" Madison said all in one breath.
"You're supposed to be my girlfriend. What kind of a boyfriend would stay idle while his girlfriend gets beat up by her own brother?" Nathan replied.
"We are not really in a relationship, and I won't leave the house for a few days till this isn't visible." Madison pointed to the bruise beneath her eyes.
"Just say the words and I would handle Ambrose, needed to get your permission first because he is your brother after all," Nathan replied calmly, and Madison frowned.
"What do you want to do to him?" She asked, confused.
"It doesn't matter, you won't have to worry about him anymore, that I can assure you, I know he mûrdered your mother," Nathan replied.
Madison blinked rapidly. How did he know that?
"Don't do anything to him, you don't have to do anything, just leave him alone, leave me alone," Madison said.
She opened the door and turned to Nathan. "Leave," she said with a straight face.
"We would have this conversation later then," Nathan replied. "You should see a doctor. First aid won't do much for the kind of bruises you have," he advised before walking out.
Madison shut the door hard.

{NEXT DAY~GEORGE'S HOUSE~9PM}
George was looking through the files his father's secretary sent to him.
Since the old man is bedridden, he had to handle the company for his father.
He was still looking through the files when his phone rang.
It was the hospital his father was getting treated in.
"Is something wrong?" George asked as he answered the phone.
"No, we just called to inform you that your father's new doctor just arrived. Would you want to meet her?" The lady at the other end replied.
George massaged his temples. He was scared for a moment, scared that something had happened to his father. "Not really, as long as she gets the job done," George replied.
"Alright, sir, have a nice day," the lady said and hung up.
George didn't even get the chance to drop his phone when a call from Caden came in.
"Yes... I saw the company email, James of all people, huh?" George said immediately.
"Exactly... James of all people, there's something fishy, we need to be cautious. Are you at the office yet?" Caden replied.
"Nope, I'm about to leave," George replied.
"Me too," Caden said and hung up.
George dropped his phone and arranged the files properly on his desk before picking up his jacket, and he left the house.

{HALTER'S MEDIA}
Emily sat on her desk while she stared at Madison's desk station.
"Why isn't she here yet?" Emily muttered.
After managing to get away from Caden last night, she hurried to her room and called Madison, who didn't pick up.
She called several times but had no answer, so she concluded that Madison had slept already. After all, she was on a plane throughout the night.
But now Emily's worry skyrocketed, Madison couldn't wait to come back to work, so why isn't she at work yet.
She picked up her phone and called Madison, and she answered on the second ring.
"I was totally about to call you. I just saw your call a few seconds ago," Madison said.
"Why do I feel like you're lying?" Emily replied.
"I'm serious, I was going to call you, I was asleep when you called last night Ems" Madison said.
"I thought so too. Why aren't you at work yet?" Emily asked.
"I can't make it to work today, I am feeling under the weather," Madison lied.
"You don't sound like someone that's feeling under the weather, Madison," Emily retorted.
"I'm having cramps, okay? I would resume next week if Liam hasn't fired me yet," Madison informed.
"He won't fire his best employee. You don't have to worry about that. Hope you get better soon," Emily said.
"Thanks, Ems," Madison replied, and Emily hung up.
"There's definitely something wrong with her," Emily sighed.
She decided she would go see Madison after work today.
Emily was going to focus on the computer in front of her when her phone pinged.
A message came from the guy who destroyed her headlights.
He had saved his name as "James" when he took her phone yesterday.
James: Have you fixed the lights yet?
Emily: I'm planning on doing it today.
James: Don't forget to tell me the cost.
Emily: I won't.
"He is nice," she muttered and dropped her phone.

{5PM}
After a long day at work, Emily packed her things and left the company, not after saying goodbye to some of her colleagues who she knows are just pretending to like her.
When Emily got to her car, her eyes landed on the broken headlights.
"I should fix this first before going to Madison's place," she muttered.
Emily didn't get the chance to enter her car when another car sped up towards her, almost hitting her but… it stopped in front of her.
Emily was scared to the bone.
That's fuçking dangerous!
She was ready to yell at the driver as she walked towards the car.
The driver came down from the car, and it was Lia.
Emily didn't know her name. She didn't see the need to know the name of any of Caden's "friends."
"Are you scared?" Lia smirked, and Emily rolled her eyes.
"Are you serious right now?" Emily replied,
