He sat sipping coffee in a small restaurant filled with tourists and a sprinkling of young soldiers in neatly pressed fatigues. The tourists were waiting for the next ferry to carry them and their vehicles across the river to tour Old Towne. The Revolutionary War era part of the city originally constructed on a large island in the middle of the river. The soldiers, all shaven-haired enlisted men fresh out of boot camp, were lounging around down in the tourist area of the city ogling the pretty young girls and enjoying themselves in their first pass off the base in six weeks. A sprinkling of them in twos and threes sitting at tables drinking cold beer with clean All-American good-natured fun painted on grinning faces. He sat at his table drinking coffee and halfheartedly reading the paper
