She watched him walk around the front of her car and step onto the neatly cut grass of a large yard, moving to open her door. He was trim. Compact. A man well used to action. A man with hard eyes and a natural scowl pulling down the corners of his lips. Yet he moved with amazing grace. An animal’s ease requiring little energy. He reminded her of Smitty. Another creature who moved with an amazing quality of effortless energy. In many respects, this man was very much like the black-eyed assassin she had just met. But there were differences as well. Distinct differences. The door opened and the Sarge stepped back to let her slip out of the car. She threw him a bright smile and stepped away from the car and turned toward him. The Sarge was just a little bit taller than her. But not by much. B
