FREYA Jayden's car comes to a stop in front of the motel, and I breathe a sigh of relief as I discover we've finally arrived at our destination. He gives me a knowing glance that implies he's relieved as well. I don't think anyone would want to spend another second in nervous quiet, because that's exactly how the second half of our day has gone. After a very awkward lunch, we both returned to the building to negotiate a few more details with the agent. The original, bubbly feeling I had when I saw the apartment has vanished, and while I am still grateful and appreciative of my new surroundings, there is an uncomfortable hollowness in me.
