Night had fallen over The Canyon Road, transforming the winding asphalt into a playground for the elite. Half of Crestwood's student body seemed to be here. Sleek sports cars lined the shoulders, their engines purring like restless beasts. Girls in short skirts and leather jackets leaned against the hoods, checking their makeup in the glow of phone screens.
Mason Thorne sat on a tall metal stool in the center of the chaos. He wore a red and black racing jacket that looked like it cost more than most people's tuition. He fished a handful of car keys from his pocket, dangling them in front of a group of scholarship students standing awkwardly nearby.
"Take a pick," Mason said, his voice light.
