CHAPTER-17: Control her

1288 Words
“Violet. Where have you been?” Nikita's sweet voice lingered in the air and Violet froze halfway across the doorway and looked at her with a nervous gaze. Greg immediately stepped closer behind her, his vigilant gaze sweeping across the dining room. The entire Scott family was gathered around the dining table waiting for her. A strange chill crawled down Violet's spine. Her eyes instinctively moved to the table. There was no breakfast prepared. After everything that happened yesterday, she had completely forgotten she was supposed to prepare breakfast. “Let me cook it now..” she murmured with fear. “Violet. Join us for breakfast.” Keroline's cheerful voice interrupted her. Violet blinked. “What?” Keroline laughed softly. The same woman who had humiliated her countless times now wore a warm smile. “Sit with us.” Violet stared. “Dont look at me like this. I was upset yesterday,” Keroline admitted. “I reacted poorly. I shouldn't have spoken to you that way. I'm sorry.” she smiled apologetically. The apology struck Violet harder than any slap ever could. “Come on, Violet,” Alex added smoothly. His handsome face carried the perfect expression of an affectionate older brother. “You are like a guest in the house now. You'll soon marry Alpha Zenith's. We should spend more time together as a family.” Family. The word sounded foreign. Across the table, Nikita's smile remained fixed. Though her eyes curled tightly at her children’s words. However, she knew they were acting nice because of Zenith’s guard. Greg, the shadow standing behind Violet. The silent reminder that she was no longer entirely under the Scott family's control. “Come, Violet.” Nikita patted the empty chair beside her. Violet slowly approached. The moment she sat down, she felt Arthur's cold eyes on her. She lowered her gaze immediately. Uncomfortable And out of place! That's what she was feeling sitting with them. Greg remained standing behind her chair and keeping an eye on everything and everyone. The maids began serving breakfast. Violet stared in shock as food was placed onto her plate. Fresh bread. Eggs. Fruits with tea Nobody snatched it away. Nobody barked orders or reminded her of her place. Nobody told her to eat leftovers in the kitchen. The sight alone made her eyes sting. For the first time in her life, she was sitting at the Scott family table. Not serving them but eating with them. "Your future mother-in-law and sister-in-law will arrive shortly." Keroline's voice pulled her from her thoughts. "I left several dresses in your room." Keroline smiled brightly. "We'll also need to shop for your wedding.” Saying that violet was shocked would be an understatement. Alex chuckled. "Yes, the future Luna of Thunderfang pack must look perfect." The fork trembled slightly in Violet's hand. Everything felt perfect yet wrong. “Do not disappoint me,” her father’s cold voice made Violet shrink in her chair. This sweetness. This acceptance. It was all unbelievable for her. She nodded weakly. "Yes." Arthur continued staring at her. The warning hidden within his gaze was impossible to miss. Nikita and Violet exchanged a brief glance. After breakfast she told her gently. "Go get ready, Violet." . . The crimson dress fit her perfectly. The soft fabric hugged her slender figure while the rich red color made her pale skin glow. Her long wavy hair cascaded down her back. Looking into the mirror, Violet barely recognized herself. "You look lovely." Nikita's voice from behind made her turn around. Nervousness filled her veins as she took a step back. Nikita approached slowly. "I hope you won't disappoint me, Violet." The warmth instantly vanished from her voice. Violet's fingers curled tightly around her dress. Nikita stopped directly before her. "Your freedom is one step away. Reject him. Reject Zenith and your human world is yours to live in. As I promised, you won't need anything there. Money. Security. House. Everything will be given to you,” Violet's toes curled tightly in apprehension as Doctor Robert's words buzzed into her ears. She was now more than confused. Not to forget scared too. “Come downstairs. Zenith's mother and sister are here with him to meet you.” Violet's heart thudded hard hearing that. He is here with him. “Reject him.” Violet bit her lip from inside and looked down. “Come down, soon,” Nikita took her silence as agreement before she left Violet’s room leaving her jumbled with her thoughts and decision. The atmosphere inside the mansion shifted the moment Zenith entered. Alex approached with a welcoming smile as the ladies left to talk privately. “Alpha Zenith." Zenith's eyes shrunk a little at corners as he put the heir of the Scott family under his firm scrutiny. “Welcome once again to our pack,” he said, offering him a hand. Zenith stared at his hand for a long minute before finally accepting it. His grip was crushing. A warning disguised as courtesy. Alex forced himself not to react. "You know..." Alex began carefully. "I appreciate what you're doing. You accepted Violet despite the complications. Her being a human and unaware of our world, it would be very difficult for you to handle yet you are not thinking about it.” Zenith once again remained silent. However, his eyes scanned Alex and and down trying to gauge whether he was a well-wisher of Violet or not. Alex sighed deeply and suddenly tensed. He was trying to sell the scene of a worried brother and the future Alpha who must follow the rules of the pack. “Part of me is happy for her. But another part of me worries. I am going to be the Alpha. So, it’s my duty to make a sincere alliance. But there is something you should know about violet." Alex sighed. A dangerous glint appeared in Zenith's eyes. Zenith's eyes shrunk further. “What about her?” He asked, his voice low and cold. Alex lowered his head. As though ashamed and reluctant. “Zenith, Violet isn't...she isn't a maiden." And the air turned painfully suffocated as the sudden silence fell. For a moment. Zenith didn't blink. "WHAT DID YOU SAY?" His voice was terrifyingly calm. His eyes flashed golden. His feet moved forward as he got into Alex’s face. “Alex…” Alex almost stepped back. His every instinct screamed danger. But he continued. "Being an heir of my family, I know very well what losing face would do to my reputation. And that's why I am telling you this. She's human, Zenith. She doesn't have the same rules. We gave her full liberty to live like a human as she was never interested in our world. She doesn't believe in our traditions and restrictions.” Zenith moved closer. Alex flickered but continued. "She enjoys male company. And if you still want to take her as your mate, you should keep an eye on… “Enough." The single word exploded through the hall. Alex's mouth snapped shut. A low growl vibrated from Zenith's chest. The fact that Alex being her brother was filling his mind against Violet, made His wolf, Ruth, furious. "You are speaking about my mate." The sudden change in his voice and eyes made Alex take a step back. But he forced himself to continue. "Yes, being her brother, I am happy for her and grateful to you for accepting her. But I am only warning you. Take my advice, Zenith. Control her firmly and stop her liaisons if you want to keep your image intact,” With that Alex left nodding at Zenith whose eyes darkened as he watched Alex walk away.
