The Christmas party finally ended, after Alpha Zenith had a private conversation with Alpha Arthur and his son Alex. The guests began to leave, their laughter fading into the night.
Violet was left alone to clean up the hall, her mind replaying the events of the evening. And Alpha Zenith. The man’s mere existence put her in haywire. Only she knew how she managed to drag her clumsy self out of there with her jelly legs when He offered his hand for her to get up.
“You think you’re smart, don’t you?” Keroline’s voice dripped with venom, her eyes blazing with fury as she strode to Violet. “You think you can steal Zenith’s attention from me? You think he’d ever choose you over me?” She snarled.
Violet stepped back, her heart slowed down with her sudden presence near her. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Keroline. I didn’t do anything.” She said calmly.
Keroline’s laugh was cold and sharp. “Liar. You’ve been a curse to this family from the day you arrived. Always in the way, always causing trouble. Well, not anymore.”
Before Violet could react, Keroline grabbed her arm, her nails digging into her skin. “You’re nothing, Violet. A wolf-less nobody. Nobody wants you. And I’m going to make sure you know it tonight.” she gritted while dragging her out of there to the pool area with no soul present there.
Violet winced, feeling the sharp pain of Keroline’s grip on her arm. With a sudden shove, Keroline pushed her hard toward the edge of the pool, Violet stumbled forward on the floor. Pain shot through her arm.
Violet looked back over her shoulder. The edge of the pool was just behind her, the water dark and cold.
An adrenaline surging through her veins knowing her step sister’s intention and she moved to stand up.
“Not so soon darling,” Keroline blocked her way, grabbing her neck up, “You think you’re better than me, huh?” Keroline’s voice cut through the night, filled with venom.
“Just because Zenith looked at you, you are acting all high and mighty, you useless lump!” Keroline slammed her body back onto the floor and Violet cried out.
“Dont hurt me, Keroline!” She shouted, her voice cracking. “I don’t have anything to do with Alpha Zenith. You need to stop this madness!”
But Keroline didn’t listen and slammed her head hard against the tiles, and pain exploded through Violet’s skull as she bit back a cry. She saw dark clots in her vision.
“Madness?” Keroline hissed, her lips curled. “You have no idea what madness is.” She jerked her closer. “You think I’m going to let you walk around like a queen after destroying my chance? Like you didn’t make a fool out of me in front of everyone?”
“Keroline, let go of me, please. I ….I didn't do anything!” Violet pleaded in low whisper, blinking a few times to clear her vision.
“Oh! Surely you won’t do anything from today onwards, Violet darling. You won’t be able to!” Keroline laughed, pulling her up by her hair. “Do you like cold water, dear sister?”
Violet’s eyes widened and body stiffened. No, she couldn’t let her hurt like this. “Let go of me!” And with a burst of energy, Violet twisted free, shoving her back with all the strength she had. Keroline stumbled, her eyes wide with surprise. It was a small victory, but it was something. “That’s enough!” Violet shouted,
“I don’t want to fight you, Keroline. Just let it go! You can have Alpha Zenith. Stop making me your punching bag to vent out your anger every time!” She screamed, Her eyes pricked at the corners with tears.
Keroline’s expression hardened, the hatred burning in her eyes. She lunged at Violet, and instinctively Violet met her with a wild swing as her fist connected with her jaw, and for a split second, Violet was stunned with her own action. It was not her wolf, was it?
She wondered.
Keroline reeled back, astonished, for a brief moment.
“You b***h, You’re going to pay for this,” she growled, her wolf surfaced. Before Violet could react, Keroline charged at her, whacking her face with her fist. The impact knocked the breath out of Violet, and she stumbled, but Keroline was not done yet, she grabbed her hair and jerked her head back. “You dared to fight back huh?”
Violet screamed, the pain was blinding as Keroline yanked her toward the pool by her hair. “You’re done, b***h,” Keroline snarled. “Done!”
“Noooo,!” Violet cried out, her voice was drowned out by the sound of water splashing as Keroline threw her body into the pool while still holding her hair.
“Enjoy the water, now!” Keroline laughed. Terrified by the water, Violet pulled her face on the surface and desperately tried to move towards the edge but Keroline pushed her face deep down into the water.
Violet choked over, water filling her mouth and nose. She thrashed her body and arms around, trying to pull her head up but Keroline kept pushing her down.
She could feel her lungs burning, the air slipping away. Her body was giving up slowly as her movements were getting weaker. Darkness edged her vision.
Is it my end? Moon goddess, are you finally giving my pathetic life to a tragic end. I didn't even get my wolf, my mate and the Life I dreamt of.
Maybe it is my freedom.
Violet accepted her fate as her body went limp.
But as she slowly closed her eyes, something happened. The water around her shimmered, and she saw something. A full moon, bright and beautiful, hanging in the night sky. It was so big. A howl echoed in her ears, filling her with a strange sense of calm. It was as if the moon was calling to her, asking her to hang on.
But soon it slipped away, just like the air in her lungs. The howl fades into silence, and Violet could feel her heartbeat leaving too.
But she heard a very strong yet soft voice in her head, a whisper before the darkness took over.
‘Hang on, Violet, hang on just a little more. It's not our end.’
And then, everything blacked out.
