“Thank you, Leonardo. You agreed to my request.” Nikita offered a grateful smile to Zenith’s Beta.
Leonardo returned it politely. “I would never stop a mother from meeting her daughter, Mrs. Scott. However, your husband and daughter will not go anywhere near my Luna.”
Nikita's smile didn't falter but her insides were clenched tightly in anger. Only she knew how she controlled herself from attacking this man!
“We are family, Leonardo,” she said gently. “I agree Keroline reacted badly. She was hurt. But she is still Violet’s sister. They share the same blood. I hope you understand that.”
Leonardo narrowed his eyes. The hidden meaning beneath her soft-spoken words did not go unnoticed by him. Yet instead of responding, he simply smiled.
A fake smile.
Nikita looked at the other guard and left from there. She had played her card and knew Violet would choose nothing but her freedom.
She prayed that now nothing would go wrong!
.
.
Zenith smirked as he swirled the crimson liquid inside his glass while Leonardo filled him with every detail of the meeting.
As irritating as the Scotts’ schemes were, he couldn’t deny they amused him.
The lengths they were willing to go to break this alliance were almost entertaining.
“As you ordered, I allowed Nikita Scott to meet Violet,” Leonardo said before taking a sip of his drink. “She spent the entire time trying to manipulate her into rejecting you. They seem to hate her but what I don’t understand is why they are doing this to their own blood.”
“Let them do whatever they want,” Zenith replied calmly. “In the end, I always get what I want, Leo. Nobody is stopping me.”
Leonardo nodded. After seeing how Zenith handled the elders regarding his decision to marry a human mate, he had no doubts about that.
The elders hadn’t openly objected, but they were watching carefully.
After all, the Alpha of Thunderfang publicly announcing his intention to marry a human had shaken the entire werewolf community.
“I stationed Greg outside her room as you requested,” Leonardo informed him. “He’ll keep an eye on every Scott inside the packhouse.”
Zenith hummed in approval.
Soon. Very soon, Violet would be his.
And once the mating bond was completed, he would finally uncover the secrer hidden beneath her skin.
He knew she was human. Everything about her suggested she was.
Yet his wolf sensed something else. Something powerful. Something buried so deeply that even she seemed unaware of it.
And that uncertainty was exactly why he had announced the wedding for the following week.
He needed answers.
More importantly, he wanted Violet protected before the vultures circling around her discovered whatever mystery she carried within and took advantage of it.
.
.
Alex stared at his sister once again. Since morning, she had been crying, snarling, growling, and throwing tantrums, and his patience had worn dangerously thin. Violet was Zenith’s mate? To hell with that.
He refused to accept it.
He would be the one to pop her cherry. Ever since that girl gained puberty he was controlling himself to taste her. Now that she ripened in all the right places he was not going to let any bastard come and take his fruit away.
“Will you stop crying?” Alex snapped at his sister whose insides burned at his order. “What is left for me except for crying? And you can do nothing except shout at me. Why don't you go and do something about it. Afterall, you would be losing your favourite toy as well.”
“Oh, I won’t,” Alex replied, leaning back in his chair. “Unlike you, I don’t waste my time drowning in self-pity.” He said, raising his hand.
Keroline clenched her fists.
“Self-pity?” she hissed. “The entire pack saw Zenith claim her in front of everyone. Do you have any idea what people are saying? They already treat her like she’s something special.”
Alex’s expression darkened.
For years, Violet had been the weakest member of their pack. So submissive and timid. She had been easy to mock, easy to control.
Now everything has changed. One mating bond and suddenly everyone looked at her differently.
“He announced the wedding next week. And after that there will be a mating ritual. Then the people who once laughed at her would start bowing to her.” Keroline felt sick with the thought.
“Zenith is making a mistake,” Alex said coldly.
Keroline looked up at him.
“Yes. He is blinded. Did you forget he didn’t agree to your marriage proposal to his sister?”
Alex clenched his jaws. He hadn’t forgotten. Zenith’s sister meant little to him, but the alliance had meant everything. A connection to the Thunderfang Pack would have strengthened his future claim as Alpha. Still, that was a matter for another day.
“He’ll regret it,” Alex said with a smile. “Just wait and watch.”
Keroline shook her head. She didn’t have patience like her brother.
“But I won’t allow it,” she whispered.
Alex raised an eyebrow. “And what exactly do you plan to do?”
Keroline angrily wiped away her tears. A dangerous look entered her eyes. “If Zenith believes Violet is his mate and would be perfect for him, then we make sure he discovers she’s not.”
Alex smirked. “Now you’re finally talking sense.”
Keroline stood and began pacing.
“Think about it. Zenith values loyalty, reputation, and trust. If we damage those things, he’ll begin questioning her.”
“Questioning isn’t enough.”
“No,” Keroline agreed. “But it’s a start.”
Alex folded his arms. “So what’s the plan?”
Keroline’s lips curved slowly.
“We don’t attack Violet directly.”
Alex frowned. “That doesn’t sound like you.”
“Because attacking her directly won’t work anymore,” she replied sharply. “Not after what happened. Not after Zenith stationed guards outside her room.”
Alex hummed. Anyone openly targeting Violet would immediately attract Zenith’s attention.
“We need the pack to turn against her first,” Keroline continued.
“Go on.”
“Rumurs. We create it, to put a stain on her character.”
He considered it for a moment before shaking his head.
“Do you think this childish game would work? Even if we spread rumors, what if Zenith refuses to abandon her?” Alex raised his brows at her.
Keroline hated that he had a point. Zenith hadn’t hesitated to accept Violet despite her being human. Why would mere gossip change his mind?
“What do you have in mind, then?” she asked him.
A cold smile appeared on his face.
“We make sure there is no bride.”
Keroline blinked for a moment then her eyes widened before a wicked grin spread across her lips.
“You want to kidnap her?” When?”
Alex’s gaze darkened.
“The wedding reception.”
Keroline immediately began considering the possibilities.
“Zenith will be surrounded by guests. Elders. Alphas from neighboring packs. He won’t leave immediately.”
“And by the time anyone realizes Violet is gone…We’ll be long gone.”
Keroline felt excitement replacing her despair. This would be the perfect plan.
“What happens after we take her?” she asked.
Alex let out a low laugh. “Surprisee.” He licked his lips. “Let’s just say Zenith won’t be getting his happy ending.”
Keroline rolled her eyes. “And you think it’ll be easy. We need someone’s help. There will be bodyguards all around.”
Alex nodded. “I already know who to approach.”
