Benita POV.
My friend and stood outside the girls' bathroom when Michael and Vanessa were having an intense argument.Michael's voice was low, but you could tell he was furious. His eyes were burning with rage and at the same time restricting himself from hurting Vanessa.
"How could you post something so stupid, Vanessa? Delete it, right now," he sneered.
Vanessa looked angry, too, but she seemed to shrink under Michael's harsh stare.
"You know it's true, Micky," she insisted desperately. "So tell me, who was that girl with you yesterday?"
Michael's expression darkened even more. "Who I spend time with is none of your business Vanessa," he warned her. "Delete the post before things get messy."
He glared at her one last time, and stormed away, we exchanged glances, watching the never ending fight between them. Vanessa was left alone, tapping her foot loudly on the floor.
My friends, Lori and Andy, and I walked up to her, pretending we were just arriving.
"Vanessa, are you okay? Did Michael hurt you?" I asked softly, checking her over for any injuries.
Vanessa looked at us, hiding how she really felt. "I'm fine, guys. Just a normal fight between a couple," she said quickly, trying to dismiss it. "It'll pass soon. I have something to do, so I'll see you later." She mumbled. Her obsession had grown to the stage madness could be used to describe that psychopathic fantasy for her.
“You sure you will be fine?. We’re friends you know”. Lori pushed further. She nodded, claiming she’s fine and strode off.
Lori, Andy, and I exchanged looks. We knew the drill.
"Another fight, another day," Andy sighed, shrugging.
Lori snorted, clearly doubting them. They’ve being like this for months, before others they’re the perfect couples and Vanessa always finds a way to show him off. We know she wanted popularizing and Micheal was her only way.
"I honestly don't think they're even dating. Michael always disagrees with everything Vanessa claims about their relationship." I rolled my eyes.
“Let’s stop feeding the gossip, girls. We have class. They need to sort out their own mess,” I added.
“Come on, bookworm, class hasn’t even started yet,” Andy shot back, leaning casually against the wall like she had all the time in the world.
“Our friend’s probably hiding in a quiet corner, ruining her eyeliner right now, and you’re worried about class?” Lori added.
“So what do you want me to do? Cry along with her obsession? Not a chance. You guys can jump into that mess if you want, but I’m out,” I said, raising a hand.
“Finding the girl she’s talking about might actually help,” Andy grimaced. It wasn’t the first time Vanessa had gone feral over another girl stealing her man. The last few girls she’d targeted ended up transferring schools. No one dared cross her anymore.
“Have you forgotten the last time we helped her? She threw us under the bus when her parents blacklisted her account for months,” I said, trying to reason with them.
Lori opened her mouth to argue. “She—”
They couldn’t deny it. And they should’ve realized the girl we used to know was gone — replaced by someone unhinged.
It’s wild how a once quiet, beautiful girl turned violent just weeks after Michael asked her out. To the point where she started accusing us of being jealous of her happiness, like we wanted to climb into her man’s bed.
I pursed my lips. No damn way I will deny not lusting for him, neither of us will deny that fact. I tightened my legs at the thought of it.
“Benita?”. I got snapped back at a tap on my shoulder.
I titled my head asides, “No I passed”. I said, rushing out before they’re instigate another plan.
If she truly loves Micheal as she claims, let her fight for him. This time without us interfering. She has to face the new girl herself, and probably when she loses to whosoever they’re, she will understand our values.
