Alternatively, Laurena was an exceptionally skilled unarmed fighter. She had not developed much in the way of striking power, but she was fast and light on her feet. Her joint locks and throws were a thing of beauty, and she was harder to hold onto than a greased pig when grappling on the ground. She had also picked up staff fighting quickly. In less than a week she was David's equal with a staff, although he had never been particularly skilled with that weapon. Unfortunately her skill with stick, sword, and knife fighting was about as dismal as her shooting.
